Is there jump scares in The Black Phone?

Hey so I was thinking of seeing The Black Phone in the cinema, have heard some good things about it and the trailer looks good.

However...I have NEVER watched a horror movie before and want to actually know what level of scary this movie is. I don't mind violence/jump scares but would not enjoy it if its gory though.

Thoughts?

Is there jump scares in The Black Phone?

level 1

I saw it last weekend. Fun movie. I wouldn't call it scary, aside from some good jump scares. It's more of a thriller

level 2

What jumpscares are in it? I don't mind spoilers

level 2

Okay good to know, yeah I wasn't sure if it was horror or more psychological thriller

level 1

You never watched a horror movie before? Welcome to prime time, bitch!

level 1

Actually never watched a horror movie before? That’s quite the statement.

I went the other days with some pals after work and I thought it was ok, more or less what you expect just by seeing the trailer alone. I think the best way to enjoy this type of films is to go in with the right expectations, trying to enjoy the feeling of fear and tension rather than expecting an amazing plot.

level 1

This is a great movie to act as a gateway into horror. It’s well made, but not overly scary or gory.

level 1

there wasnt much gore at all, I really enjoyed it, the lead characters did a great job, the kids are great actors!

level 1

Best time I had at the theater all year. More of a really fun thriller with some good supernatural horror elements

level 1

More of a thriller than a horror.

level 1

There are a few cheap jump scares and some parts that were legitimately tense but I wouldn't call it "scary".

level 1

Honestly as a horror fan I was really disappointed, the description was of a ‘sadistic serial killer’ but the guy never did anything sadistic, the ‘victims’ makeup was done poorly and didn’t show any injuries of how they were killed besides a few cuts and bruises which isn’t anything sadistic, the grabber also has no backstory or relation to the victim, a lot of characters and scenes were fillers and not needed. It was messy, boring and over hyped

level 2

I've seen films like Alien and Jaws, would it be any scarier than that

level 1

Psychological thriller is the closest thing to describe it, with a bit of paranormal, imo.

level 1

Same with me, I’ve never seen a scary movie but i watched this with some friends and can honestly say that it isn’t scary

level 1

I've never watched a horror either judging by these comments I'm going to give it a go I'll be back once I've finished it
