Your stomach gives an insistent lurch, and, rather than finishing your journey home, to take a couple of ibuprofen and drink some water like an adult, you decide to tackle your hangover with a slice of pie - apple, for preference. Now sat in a corner booth, ignoring or oblivious to the parents shooting you dirty looks, as your head keeps bobbing slightly with your hung-over dizziness, you jump a bit as a plate is placed in front of you. Half-smiling, you take a deep whiff of the pie you ordered - à la mode, to your delight - and for a moment, apple, cinnamon, and vanilla overpower the cognac you reek of. Missing your own mouth slightly, you manage to take a bite, slowly masticate your questionable breakfast, and start to feel vaguely human. But as you swallow, the booze scent rises again, this time accompanied by the smear of vanilla ice cream your drunk ass has left under your nose - in response, your headache throbs, your stomach gurgles, and as a baby starts to cry in the far corner, you feel the stirrings of genuine regret. This is what Angels' Share smells like to me. Indeed, while I personally haven't lived through that sort of situation in a number of years, the booze-and-vanilla of the opening, combined with the mild headache I already had when I sprayed this on, made me feel exactly like I used to in similar such mornings, around the tail end of my party days. Now, I suppose, if you are in the habit of smelling like drink anyway, Angels' Share has strong potential for being a high-end cover-up - but, to my nose, this is not something I would ever wear. I would - maybe - spray it in a room the morning after a get-together, to freshen things up a little, but is a pretty strong "maybe" - it might just exacerbate everyone's hangover. And, of course, this is not an air freshener - it's a very expensive (and kind of surprisingly well-regarded) perfume. In that capacity, however, it fails my nose completely, as it just makes me smell like a *kind of* high-class drunk - and then continues to do so for hours on end, as this stuff has annoyingly incredible longevity.
