Lord of the rings in theaters 2022

While The Lord of the Rings is about to transition from the big screen to the world of streaming television, hardcore fans who want to get the theatrical experience of this new chapter in the saga of Middle-earth will have a chance to do it — with a fairly significant catch.

The first two episodes of Prime Video’s new The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series will premiere on August 31 in theaters, two days before everyone else will be able to watch the show on streaming. But! It will only be playing in Cinemark theaters. If you don’t live near a Cinemark, you are out of luck.

To attend, you need to go to the chain’s website and reserve a ticket. In order to claim one you must be a member of Cinemark Movie Rewards. (There is a free option for that.) Each ticket includes a $10 snack voucher. If you want to attend, you better move quickly. Seats are up for grabs now, and at the theaters I looked at in the New York metro area, most were already completely sold out.

Rather than readapt J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings novels to television, the new show, developed by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, is set in Middle-earth’s Second Age, which took place centuries before the events chronicled in the original books or Peter Jackson’s movies. Still, the show includes some familiar characters from the movies, including the elves Elrond and Galadriel, now played by Robert Aramayo and Morfydd Clark, respectively.

The first two episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on Amazon’s Prime Video on September 2. The rest of the first season’s episodes will premiere weekly on Fridays.

The Franchises With the Most Bad Movies

Usually, when a franchise gets bad, that’s the beginning of the end. But some film series are too successful to ever truly die.

Lord of the rings in theaters 2022

The Lord of the Ringsis coming back to the big screen with The War of the Rohirrim, but we do have to wait until 2024 for it.

We've recently returned to Middle-earth in Prime Video series The Rings of Power, set thousands of years before The Hobbit. The new movie is also set in the past, but not so far back and takes place 183 years before The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

"It's a gift to be able to revisit Middle-earth with many of the same creative visionaries and the talented Kenji Kamiyama at the helm. This will be an epic portrayal unlike anything audiences have ever seen," Warner Bros boss Toby Emmerich told Variety.

As we wait for its 2024 release, here's everything you need to know about The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.

War of the Rohirrim release date: When is Lord of the Rings The War of the Rohirrim out in cinemas?

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will be out in cinemas on April 12, 2024. The animated film is being developed by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros Animation.

More than 20 years after the end of the original trilogy, it appears that studios are revisiting JRR Tolkien's series hellbent on exploring every nook and cranny of the world and each mysterious figure and whispered legend found between the pages of the books.

Much of the voice cast has been confirmed, with the exciting return from The Lord of the Rings OG trilogy star Miranda Otto. She will reprise her role as Éowyn, who will serve as the narrator of the film.

Behind the scenes, the movie is being directed by Kenji Kamiyama. Oscar-winner Philippa Boyens, who was part of the original screenwriting team of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, will be executive producing alongside producer Joseph Chou.

Also returning for the project will be The Lord of the Rings alums from its creative team, Oscar winner Richard Taylor and Tolkien illustrator John Howe.

The screenplay will be based on a script by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews and will be set around 250 years before the events of the original movie, which is dubbed as the third age, while the new show is set to take place during the second age.

The movie is set to explore the as-yet-untold story of the Helm's Deep fortress, following the life of the legendary King of Rohan Helm Hammerhand.

Leading the resistance against Wulf is Helm's daughter Hera.

Is there a new Lord of the Rings movie 2022?

The final trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power debuted on August 24, 2022.

Where is Rings of Power playing in theaters?

The one-night event is being held at Cinemark theaters across the US and Canada, and it's only available to Cinemark Movie Rewards members (membership is free).

Is rings of power coming to theaters?

This is very unlikely. Aside from its Oscar contenders, Amazon, which is releasing The Rings of Power on Prime Video this week, doesn't generally send its content to theaters. Also, Rings of Power is a TV show, not a movie, so its format isn't exactly conducive to the cinema experience.
