Lately, I’ve been dreaming of another man other than my husband.

These dreams have left me feeling guilty.

Specifically: I’ve had a similar dream twice of an old high school flame and both of them stuck with me.

What does it all mean?

1) You’re getting in touch with your masculine side

Famous psychologist Carl Jung believed that each of us contains elements of the masculine and feminine, which he called the animus and anima.

For women, getting in touch with their masculine side is part of integrating and becoming a whole person.

This includes resolving and benefiting from joyful and challenging experiences and interactions with masculinity in their upbringing and outer life.

If you’re dreaming of another man than your husband and it’s not romantic or sexual at all but seems to emphasize something important about him being a man or masculine then it could well be that you’re integrating experiences and perceptions of masculinity in your life and inside yourself.

Like Jung said in his 1944 book Psychology and Alchemy:

“When animus and anima meet, the animus draws his sword of power and the anima ejects her poison of illusion and seduction. The outcome need not always be negative, since the two are equally likely to fall in love (a special instance of love at first sight).”

2) You have inner doubts and insecurities

Inner doubts and insecurities often manifest in our dreams. They’re a place that the issues and turmoil buried inside us can come forth and express themselves.

If you’re feeling unsure about your own relationship or even men in general, then the dream could be a way for you to express that.

Like astrological author Liz Green writes:

“Individuals blind to the sexual opposite within them, be they men or women, never realise that the partner they choose is chosen because he or she bears some resemblance to the anima or animus.

The anger and hurt felt at the ‘true discovery’ of the partner’s failings is really anger and hurt directed at oneself; and this would become apparent, were one to see the dark figure within one’s own unconscious impelling one into a particular relationship.”

3) It points to issues in your current relationship

Dreaming about another man other than your husband can reflect problems in your current relationship.

Anxieties, stresses, and disappointments with your partner may manifest as fulfillment, excitement, and interest with a new man in your dream.

Every marriage has some unresolved issues, but when your subconscious becomes overloaded and sees no way out to express or communicate them then they can definitely show up as wish fulfillment in dreams.

It’s tempting to press down difficult issues or emotions, particularly if we feel we’re more to blame for them or they come from our own issue and aren’t our partner’s fault.

But what if you’re looking for practical solutions to deal with dreaming of another man?

I’ve been in your position before, and there was one thing that helped me get to the root cause and resolve this – the free Love and Intimacy video by the world-renowned shaman Rudá Iandê.

Rudá doesn’t smooth things over, he gets real, and he digs deep into the relationship you have with yourself and how it impacts the relationships you have with others.

4) You miss an old guy friend in a platonic way

If you dream of an old guy friend but it’s not romantic or sexual it can be a sign that you simply miss an old friendship.

I have previously had dreams of old guy friends, including my uncle Bill who was always close to me growing up but passed away five years ago. It was pretty clear that I basically just missed them.

Like dream expert Ryan Hart writes:

“When someone familiar appears in your dream, he or she likely holds a place in your psyche, so just as you wake up with images of faces or people you see regularly, so will they appear in your dreams.

Take note of what the particular person is doing, if he or she is alone or with others, and even note how that particular person looks differently than you remember him from real life.”

5) You miss an ex and are dreaming of him

Like I said, my recent dreams have been of an old flame from high school, so I can’t slate my case into the platonic category. That’s part of what’s got me a bit worried.

I’d like to think that I’m not the type to dwell in the past or get hung up over an ex and let missing him sabotage my current marriage. After all, I know it would be very unhealthy and unfortunate if that were to happen…

However, I did some more research and found out that I’m not necessarily hankering to be back with my ex.

And that it could be a lot more subtle than that.

Blogger Jenna Dedic writes:

“Most people wake up from a dream about their former lovers and immediately assume they must miss this person,” adding that it’s not always actually about missing your ex but about “an aspect of who you were when you were with them you’re longing for.”

6) You’re tempted to cheat on your husband

In some situations, dreaming of another man other than your husband can mean that you’re tempted to cheat on your husband.

It could be a dude you just happened to see working at the mechanic when you took your car…

Or a news anchor on TV who was looking mighty fine…

But if you notice there’s a sexual or romantic element to your dream of another guy then it’s best to be honest with yourself.

The desire to cheat happens to the best of us, and pushing it down or saying it doesn’t exist won’t make it go away.

When we live in shame or denial it can ironically make it a lot easier to give in to our temptations and do wrong things because we already feel so repressed about our emotions and desires.

Admitting you’re tempted to cheat can be the key step to actually stopping yourself from cheating or addressing the relationship issues and shortcomings that are making you want to cheat.

7) It points to increasing nostalgia

Sometimes dreaming of another man other than your husband can be a sign of nostalgia.

It may be your dad, an old family friend, a teacher, or someone who you were once close to and remember fondly.

Nostalgia is a powerful force, and even in the busy mix of our modern lives it still is there beneath the surface. This is why nostalgic memories sometimes come out in dreams and exerts its pull on us:

Precious memories that stick around and make themselves known once again.

And since this nostalgia seems prevalent, have you considered getting a real and genuine psychic reading to find out for sure where these memories are coming from?

I know how important it is to stay away from fake ones.

8) You have unfulfilled sexual desires

Married woman dreaming about another man

Austrian psychoanalyst pioneer Sigmund Freud believed that dreams often bring up unfulfilled sexual desires and fantasies.

According to him, our moral teachings and daily life conditions teach us that certain of our desires or cravings are immoral and bad, and we push them down.

Dreams give us the chance to run wild.

If you’re having sex with another man in your dream or becoming very aroused then it’s likely you have unfulfilled sexual desires in your marriage.

This isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker and it can be worked on, but it’s definitely something you should pay attention to.

Sexual desire and satisfaction are an important part of a relationship, and if it’s lacking then you’re naturally going to be feeling a little neglected and having dreams about the kind of hunk who can get your motor running.

9) You’re in love with someone else

This is the most serious of the interpretations of what it can mean to be dreaming of another man other than husband.

Let’s be frank:

Sometimes it straight-up means you’re in love with another guy. And that’s an issue one way or another.

Because love isn’t an easygoing thing and it isn’t likely to just suddenly fade.

Dreaming of another man as part of a romantic journey and expression of being in love with him even just a few times can be a powerful sign that you’re either currently with the wrong man or have deep issues you need to work out with him.

If you’re in love with another man and dreaming about him at night then it’s something you’ll have to face sooner or later and no matter what choice you and your current husband make it’s definitely going to be difficult.

Final verdict on dreaming of another man other than husband

Dreaming of another man other than husband is a bit of a surprising experience.

You may feel guilty, embarrassed, confused, or even excited.

And honestly, all of those reactions are perfectly fine.

But if you don’t want this to continue, if you want to focus only on your husband and no one else, I’d highly recommend the free Love and Intimacy video.

I mentioned it earlier – it’s been a lifesaver for me in my relationship especially when we started experiencing issues and I ashamedly started wondering what life with another man might be like.

Because rather than just diagnose your issue, the shaman Rudá offers practical tips on getting back on track – tips you can try straight after watching the video.
