Product Description

7 things to know about this Tasmanian apple cider vinegar shampoo bar:

  1. It’s handcrafted, totally natural and free from harsh chemicals and synthetic detergents (like SLS) that are all the rage in “professional” hair care
  2. As a naturally solid cube, it lasts a looooong time. (Even longer considering healthy hair doesn’t get greasy as fast or need washing as often.) Less packaging, zero single-use plastics, and all the savings for you, oh frugal one.
  3. This balancing bar is great for all hair types. But if you’re dealing with dry, damaged, dull or frizzy follicles, it’s probably your spirit shampoo.
  4. You can thank apple cider vinegar for the miracles. It’s brilliant at restoring pH balance, cleansing the scalp, strengthening hair and upping the dial on shine. We use the very best ACV made with naturally fermented Tasmanian apple juice from our mates at Spreyton.
  5. We’ve also added French Green Clay for beaucoup de minerals like magnesium, calcium and potassium to promote healing and growth. Clay also mops up excess oil. Snap.
  6. And hey, we better mention that this shampoo bar is packed full of honey, too. But not just any bee juice, pure Tasmanian Leatherwood honey and beeswax from the remote West Coast wilderness. We’re proud to partner with R. Stephens, a family of apiarists who’ve been tending hives in the rainforest for over 100 years. Honey + beeswax = shine on, you crazy beautiful hair.
  7. With all this talk of wild beauty, it’s good to know that this low-waste and non-toxic shampoo bar is a big vote for the environment. It’s safe for you, our waterways, our wildlife, and our one precious planet.

Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Aqua (Water), Oleo europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Ricinus communis (Castor) Oil, Leatherwood Cera alba (Beeswax), Glycine soja (Soybean) Wax, Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) Essential Oil, Montmorillonite (French Green Clay), Spinacia oleracea (Spinach) Leaf Powder, Pyrus malus (Apple) Vinegar, Sodium lactate (derived from Cane Sugar), Leatherwood Mel (Honey), Fucus vesiculosus (Seaweed) Extract, Sapindus mukorossi (Soapnut) Extract

If you’re new to shampoo bars, they’re pretty simple to get your head around… and vice versa. Simply rub onto wet hair, work into a lather and rinse well. Follow with one of our all-natural conditioner bars to detangle and deeply nourish, making your mop softer and silkier than a baby alpaca.

***Please note that this cleansing conditioner is made with RAW UNFILTERED APPLE CIDER VINEGAR. No fragrance oil is used to mask the natural fragrance. After rinsing with cool water (to seal in moisture) the scent might linger but it will go away as the hair dries***

This Apple Cider Vinegar Conditioner is packed with herbs to help create a cleansing co-wash or hair conditioner for any hair type. The ACV works to rebalance the natural pH of the hair, leaving it feeling even cleaner and fresher without stripping it. Made with MARSHMALLOW ROOT, LAVENDER, and HIBISCUS, this conditioner is made to hydrate, cleanse, and restore hair's natural healthy state.

PERSONAL NOTE:
My hair type is between 3A and 3B. I haven't used shampoo in over a year. I've been using a combination of baking soda and apple cider vinegar (not mixed together) to cleanse and moisturize my hair. I made this into a conditioner because the creamier texture helps coat my hair better and I don't feel like most of my rinse was going down the drain. Plus it feels nice to massage the cream into my scalp. When hair is feeling rough and dry, I leave this on for about 10-15 minutes and rinse off. My hair feels BEAUTIFUL!!!!

THE TECHNICAL STUFF:
What is hair pH balance -
Anything between 0 and 6.9 is acidic, 7 is neutral, and anything between 7.1 and 14 is alkaline. Human hair and scalp oil have a pH balance of between 4.5 and 5.5. It is especially important for people with curly hair to return their hair to a slightly acidic pH level since the open cuticle prevents natural acidic sebum to keep the entire hair at a pH balance.

The importance of balancing your hair's pH:
__Your pH has a lot to do with your hair’s ability to hold moisture and maintain its sebum. Sebum is your hair’s natural conditioner, a protective shield that is responsible for maintaining moisture.

__Natural hair acidity prevents fungi and bacteria in the hair and scalp, keeping the cuticle closed and healthy.

__Using shampoos, conditioners, and other products that based substances are high alkali will affect your hair's pH balance. Products that are more alkali, will cause the hair follicles to expand and release much-needed moisture. The loss of moisture stunts your hair growth and causes it to become hard, dry, and frail.

DIRECTIONS: Apply conditioner to freshly cleansed hair, massage in, and rinse with cool water. If using as a co-wash, wait about 5-8 minutes before rinsing.

Can I use apple cider vinegar as a leave in treatment?

Mix ACV and water in equal proportions and pour over your hair after you have shampoo and conditioner. Leave your hair as is for a couple of minutes and then wash it off with water them. If you have a sensitive scalp, add more water than vinegar.

How often should you do apple cider vinegar hair treatment?

Try incorporating the rinse into your hair care regimen a couple of times a week. Also feel free to increase the amount of ACV you use in each wash or rinse. Generally, keeping it around 5 tablespoons or less is recommended.

How long can you leave apple cider vinegar on your hair?

Go along with your normal shampoo routine and rinse your hair. Then slowly pour the ACV hair wash onto your head in an attempt to evenly distribute it. Leave it in your hair for about 2-3 minutes to soak in. Finally, thoroughly rinse to remove from your hair and you're done!

How long does it take for ACV to work on hair?

"I recommend shampooing first and then saturating the hair with ACV." Once you massage the solution into the scalp, let it sit for three to five minutes before rinsing and conditioning as normal.
