DescriptionChange Your Plugs and Reduce Misfires! These NGK 5992 Laser Iridium replacement plugs are one step colder than Bosch on N54 engines and are well suited for higher than stock horsepower racing applications. The plug gap must be manually set using a gap tool to the suggested 0.022". The tighter gap and exposed electrode design typically results in fewer misfires at higher power levels than the Bosch plugs. The trade off is a 15-20k mile life span compared to the 20-30k life span of the Bosch plugs. These plugs are compatible with all turbo BMW motors including the N20, N54 and N55 Engine. Replaces:
The listing is for a single plug, you will generally need six when replacing your plugs. Everyone knows spark plug changes are suggested every 20k miles or so for tuned vehicles and require replacement or regapping for higher than stock power levels. To make that job easier we offer a magnetic spark plug socket tool and an easy to use gapping tool. The magnet socket allows you to install and remove the plugs delicately without damage and our gapping tool lets you quickly set the gap without risk of damaging the plug. Please Note When installing the plugs with Precision Raceworks coils on the N55 engine, we recommend setting the gap down to 0.022"

More Information
Should I run one step colder spark plugs?A modified engine with higher cylinder temperatures will usually need a colder heat range spark plug. Generally, for every 75-100 hp you add, you should use a one (1) step colder heat range to be safe and avoid pre-ignition. The plug gap may also need to be adjusted smaller to avoid misfire.
What does 1 step colder spark plugs mean? Why go “one step colder”? Running a “colder” heat range spark plug will reduce temperatures in the combustion chamber by wicking more heat into the cylinder head. This reduces feedback knock and fine knock learning when running gasoline tunes. Recommended on ALL 2.5 WRX/STI making over 280 whp.
What is the coldest NGK spark plug?A colder plug would be # R5671A-11 (heat range 11), a hotter plug would be # R5671A-9 (heat range 9). Some NGK Racing Plugs are also available in half heat ranges. These are displayed as a 2 or 3 digit number after the hyphen.
Do I need a hotter or colder spark plug?A colder heat range spark plug may be necessary if the ignition timing has been advanced to near the knock level. Higher cylinder temperatures near the knock level will bring the spark plug firing end temperature closer to the pre-ignition range.
