Oracle of Seasons or Ages first

Overall doesn't matter, it plays out 99.5% the same.

Personally I played Ages first and like it that way, but there seems to be a slight tendency to start with Seasons amongst the fanbase. If you are a perfectionist, there are a couple of reasons to start with Ages I won't go in to here. Starting with ages also gives you 2 extra heart containers, an extra sword upgrade and better rings for Seasons which has the harder combat. I also think the linked characters from Ages who pop up in a linked-game Seasons are better than the characters from Seasons who show up in linked-game Ages.

Starting with Seasons means you don't have to deal with some of the harder Ages puzzles until you are more experienced. You also get more powerful rings (especially the red ring as early as before level 7) more easily. It also means that you get Hero's Cave in linked Ages - and the Ages version is absolutely amazing.

      • Hello everyone!

I ordered Oracle of Ages and Seasons together for €50 (boxed + manuals and stuff)

Oracle of Seasons or Ages first

I don't know much about the storyline so I was wondering which one to play first... Any recommendations? I have no clue!

Also, I still need The Minish Cap and Link's Awakening XD
Anybody think it's worth the extra money buying them with boxes and manuals?

Please move this thread if it's in the wrong place! I'm new here so don't blame me

Oracle of Seasons or Ages first

        Thank you!

      • The order of the story depends on which one you play first, and you won't really miss anything if you play one of them first rather than the other. As for which one you play first, well it depends! Seasons has more action, and a lot of its design and dungeon elements echo back to the original Legend of Zelda. Ages has more puzzles, and I personally enjoy Ages more than Seasons. I hope that helps a little!

      • Well I got them in the mail and I think I'm going to start with Seasons!

        Here's why

-Easier puzzles. I want the second run (Ages) to be a new challenge puzzle wise!
        -More combat focussed.

Basically I think it's a better idea to start with a more hack and slash Zelda, and then do the more challenging puzzle oriented one. I think I'll find Seasons a bit annoying after Ages since the enemies are harder, yet breeze through the puzzles.

        Thanks for your reply

      • Actually Id do the opposite. After full on combat those puzzles get super annoying.
Compared to annoying puzzles to fun combat OoA should be first.

      • Ages. Because it happens first story-wise I believe and...yeah. And damn you paid a lot for those games, they are much much cheaper on the eShop

      • That really depends on the password.OoA withought password Impact doesn't know you. With she does.

      • I'd say to find out for yourself, it's up to you which one to play first. As far as I remember Ages is more difficult, so if you want an easier time with it then beat Seasons first so you can link your game when you start Ages.

I'm doing this at the moment with Seasons and it helps because you get to keep all of your rings.

I've always personally viewed Seasons as the harder game. There's a lot of easy and quick ways to get killed, especially as you get into the later dungeons (there is some tricky platforming too). That's just my opinion though. Ages definitely had some REALLY annoying puzzles though. Especially

      • I find both games difficult really, Ages always did give me extra trouble though.

        you mean Jabu-Jabu's belly?

Oh I agree, the two games are some of the hardest ones in the entire series, but the difficulty has it's own appeal I think.

Yes, that's the dungeon! I haven't played Ages in years, so I remember bits and pieces of the game. I remember as a kid being particularly annoyed by that part. I liked the Ancient Tomb though. It has some of my favorite dungeon design and atmosphere from the Oracle games.

      • I heard some people tell that Ages has more story... and that the story partly continues in Seasons. And the same is not true for the opposite.

So that's why I'll be playing Ages first.

Oracle of Seasons or Ages first

      • ....soooo playing Ages first gives more story? i.e. more new content??

If that's the case, AGES it is!

And I don't think €50 for both boxed is that expensive! Who the hell wants digital Zelda games? The only downside about physical Gameboy games is that in about 15-20 years or so the save battery will run dry. But hell, you can replace it, and there's no way you still have that digital copy after 30 years (the lifespan of save batteries).

I plredict a Gameboy apocalyspe in like 15-20 years since all Gameboy games will stop saving

      • I could be completely wrong, but technically doesn't the Hyrule Histora state that Seasons' story comes before Ages? I think with game-linking you get unique parts that pop up in the other game that you would not have otherwise noticed. I could be wrong though, I'm only now replaying Seasons on my 3DS.

      • Its just what password you use.

      • I recently played through the games, and completed it only last week. I only did one playthrough of each though, and did Ages as linked.

Seasons is more combat focused, and I also found it more difficult, not puzzle wise though. But the end boss is just crazy! I say good luck with that, if you don't know what to do

Oracle of Seasons or Ages first

Both games are very enjoyable and I'm sure whatever game you start with, it won't change your experience of them in a major way.

I'll do a run of OOA (hero game) -> OOS (hero linked game) soon

Oracle of Seasons or Ages first

Enjoy the games, they're well worth the time.

      • Hmm so much mixed opinions...

I'm confused though: what's a ''Linked'' playthrough and a hero mode or something??

Isn't it just that after playing one game you get a code to continue on the other? Is that ''linked''? Or do you really get extra benefits with the link cable? I do have 2 GBAs, both games and a link cable so I could link them.

That is what a linked playthrough is. After you beat one of the games, you get a code that you can put into the other game that you start. I think you need the link cable to transfer the code, but don't quote me on it. You do get added stuff; there's additions to the story main story that you would never have gotten if you played through the game without beating the other one. There's added content and you can also uncover passwords in the game you "linked" too, giving you things like additional items and upgrades for example. Plus the endgame changes quite a bit too if I am not mistaken.

Nah. You either use the code OR a link cable.
And you need to do this to get the true ending of the game, where you face a final boss.

I don't know what he meant with hero mode... Maybe a 3hearts run or so?

      • It's the Hero's Secret which you get when beating a Linked game. As I've understood it allows you to start another Linked game without the altered story/plot.
Sounds really unnecessary to me, but *shrug*

There's more info here: Linked Game - Zelda Wiki

I say it's up to you what game to go first with, others don't need to tell you that. Just pick one.

You can get some really neat items on a Linked game through secrets by using both games. For example as far as I've understood, you'll meet someone in the Linked game that will tell you a secret to tell a person in the game you beat first. Then you get another secret to be able to transfer that item back to the Linked game.

Oh and if you want to start your first file as a Linked game, it should be po ssible according to that ZeldaWiki link. You'll need a link cable and two Gameboy Colours though.

      • Well there's no big reason for the Hero's game, unless you want to experience both games with the non-linked and linked story. I will explain this with the example of starting with OoS:

        - You run through OoS with a Non-linked story and once completing you'll receive a Linked code
        - OoA is run through as a linked game, you'll gain 1 extra heart and can gain extra items in OoS, I never did this so I don't know if you can transfer those items to OoA once obtained in OoS. However the story line is different due to it being a Linked game. Once completing you'll gain a new password for a hero's game.

        - OoA hero's game is like OoS before, so now you experience the original story, once completed you'll gain Linked Hero's game code.
        - OoS Linked Hero's game you'll experience as OoA before with the different story line.

So Hero's games are just to experience all the different stories with the extra heart, and being able to obtain extra items from codes, it's of course optional. Just start with whatever game you want, play them the way you want

Does Oracle of Ages or Seasons come first?

The order of the story depends on which one you play first, and you won't really miss anything if you play one of them first rather than the other. As for which one you play first, well it depends! Seasons has more action, and a lot of its design and dungeon elements echo back to the original Legend of Zelda.

What is the difference between Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons?

Although the two are built on the same game engine, Oracle of Ages concentrates on puzzles, while Oracle of Seasons focuses on action. Each is a complete game capable of interacting with the other, via passwords or a Game Link Cable.

Do you need to play both Oracle of Ages and Seasons?

The game is part of a 2 part game where you will need Oracles of Season to *complete* the game (you will get a ending for beating either Oracle of Ages or Oracle of Season by itself but you will not get the best ending without having both games).
