"Orphan: First Kill" is a fugitive fable. Leena is a patient at Saarne sanitarium in Estonia. Leena has a "glandular disorder" which has caused her growth to be stunted. Leena has the height and appearance of a ten year old girl. Looking into the visage of Leena Klammer, who is the personage made immortal by actress Isabelle Fuhrman, I was preparing for horror. I wanted a Halloween movie (this early!) and all my longings were aimed towards this, with memories of treasured twilight and foliage thrills.
"Orphan: First Kill" delivers an extraordinary killer-Leena-and with blocks of expanding complications, the impulses which force Leena to escape, and her intertwining into an upperclass household forges a clandestine adventure. We are witnesses, in whimsical segments, to impersonation and distrust synergies, equal and better than that of historical Soviet-American pretenses. Leena becomes Esther, a little girl to a family in Darien Connecticut. In films where the protagonist is in a 'game', or a mansion of mystery, this given person must point-out the implements of disguise and clues to explain the world around him or her, Leena rather, presents the thrill of being embedded within her society, and the darkening evolves around Esther's continuous plights to survive, to hide.
In this wealthy Connecticut home of the Albright's, the conjoining furtive plots of Esther's guardians and intrusive law enforcement officers, make the attached suspicions a highly decorated venue of tact and dark sarcasm. Leena, as Esther, the little girl she is thought to be, stalks in a world where adults inform one another, and the elevated knowledge which has existed above the plot of this movie is incubating and is coarsing in the light parochial tones. Confessions, disappearances, and murders, are tracery branchworks in the excitements at the center of "Orphan:First Kill". There are a couple ploys which are a little gimmicky, seem contraptive, but they don't initiate disbelief, and certainly aren't ruinous to the interest we have invested in 'Leena's-Esther's-who ever's-' struggles.

I think the only thing I did not like is how short the movie felt. I wish we had more time at the Saarne Institute (for no real reason other than morbid curiosity); I wish we had more time with any flashbacks from when "Esther the Real" was little, or more perspective from the son, in particular. I just would like to have seen this be a mini-series. More art, of course. I guess I'm saying it felt almost rushed.

As with everyone else, the twist in the middle was really something unexpected. And I must say, Julia Stiles looks great as a brunette.

If you liked Orphan, you'll really enjoy this. Lots of villains in this one.

Wow.
Upon watching it again, I missed SO MUCH. Like the choice of song when we meet Gunnar (at a fencing match). The song is titled Evil. Now WE think it's all about Esther when we REALLY know...the real story.
The mother's face: This confused me the first time, her reaction to the cop coming and 'finding Esther.' It's sheer bloody terror. I caught that the first time, and was terribly confused by it. NOW I know...when he said, "We found Esther," she was thinking something completely different.

They really did a good job and the credits of the movie at the end: The art is very interesting.

I'm going to see if I can catch more, "WHY DID I NOT SEE THIS" moments.

If you watched the first Orphan movie, you know the story of "Esther" and what she's all about. If you haven't, I suggest you watch that one first. This movie sheds much light on why Esther behaves as she does and her origins.

There are some serious plot twists in this movie that kept me on the edge of my seat. I honestly didn't see it coming. The actress that plays Esther did a great job portraying such a complex character that is both an adult and a child.

There is a bit of gore, but you have to expect that in a movie like this. There was suspense, and anxiety-producing moments in this film, both of which kept me very engaged. Overall this film is a great thriller.

I liked Orphan so was really curious about where they would go with this prequel since it had a shocking plot twist because I thought where could they go from there? Well, well, well was I completely surprised by the unforeseeable plot twist in this movie!!!! The score was off putting but I eventually got so caught up in the amazing story it didn't take away from the amazing writing and solid acting. You don't have to have seen Orphan this movie stands on ita own but if you have and think you know you're going down the same road you absolutely are wrong and will be blown away by where the story takes you. Watch it NOW!!!

I literally LOVEEEEEE this movie! I was a bit skeptical about how it was going to be since she's a lot older than the first one obviously and like how were they going to back track, but, the storyline was great. They literally gave enough detail and information on the 'First Kill' and the way both movies went together was amazing. Like the smallest little detail just made the movie 10x better. For example: the blue light from the first movie was cool and all but then when they included it in this movie I was literally like OMG that's where she learned that from. Like it just connects so wellllll!!!!!!! Im so excited if you can't tell lol. I was obsessed with the first one and now I'm obsessed with this one!!

I enjoyed the original and was hoping this would be as good. It absolutely was as the prequel to how Esther got to America in the first place. Very intense and fast paced, never a dull moment. She's truly a psychopath. Wondered if I should spend the $19.99 to rent this movie and it was worth it! Have to admit though, much of this was like a Lifetime movie, but I watch a lot of those so this was like a better version of a Lifetime movie.

I did not watch the original Orphan (2009) movie until 2022. I really liked it. It was different and certainly a hit for its day. I decided to watch Orphan: First Kill, and hoped that it would be good and it did not disappoint. It was not as GREAT as the original, BUT, it is still a very good movie, in my opinion. I have read where they are CONSIDERING doing more Ester movies and I will certainly watch them if they do produce more. I WOULD most definitely recommend people watch Orphan: First Kill.
