Depth Chart Fantasy Impact

QB Jameis Winston saw a torn left ACL end his 2021 in Week 8. But the team saw enough to give him a new 2-year deal in free agency, trusting him as the season-opening starter for at least 1 more year. The Saints also signed a new backup, Andy Dalton, after the one-time Bengal spent a year apiece in Dallas and Chicago. New Orleans also shifted sometimes-QB Taysom Hill to TE this offseason, further entrenching Winston.

Alvin Kamara continues to lead the New Orleans backfield, though we’re all waiting to see whether and for how long Kamara gets suspended over assault charges stemming from a Las Vegas altercation back in February. Despite having all offseason to anticipate such a move, the Saints didn’t add much. The only new RB is undrafted free agent Abram Smith, a 1-year starter at Baylor. That leaves 32-year-old Mark Ingram as the likely backfield leader if (when?) Kamara misses time.

The WR corps hopes to get Michael Thomas back from a nagging ankle injury that cost him most of the past 2 years. Thomas still didn’t gain clearance to participate in any spring workouts, though. The Saints added WR Jarvis Landry in free agency and made 2 trades to get in position to draft WR Chris Olave 11th overall.

Olave averaged 15.4 yards per catch across 4 seasons at Ohio State, including 2 years of 12 TD catches or more. Landry comes off a quiet final season in a disappointing Browns offense but still led that group in targets despite missing 5 games.

Behind that trio, New Orleans returns Marquez Callaway and Deonte Harty, and also re-signed Tre’Quan Smith to a 1-year deal.

TE Adam Trautman hopes for a healthier 3rd season after multiple issues derailed his sophomore campaign. Hill just might stand 2nd behind him at the position, with Nick Vannett and Juwan Johnson also in the mix.

The O-line adds Round 1 OT Trevor Penning from Northern Iowa. The Saints will need him to step up right away in place of LT Terron Armstead, who signed with Miami in free agency.
