Red dead online rolling block vs bolt action

Springfield is the rifle in between the bolt action and rolling block.

You disengage the medium range scope for auto aim or use the scope for free aim. It's damage is higher than the bolt, lower than the rolling block. And vs the bolt, damage doesn't drop over range so it's closer to the rolling block in that respectively.

Its my preferred rifle for range.

I don't think many can truly answer this because the truth is not so clear nor straight forward.

For big game hunting, you can absolutely use a bolt action rifle for clean kills. Nothing requires you use the long-scoped rifles.

So get that out of the way now.

What we're left with is the fact both of these rifles are very high damage guns, with very long range capabilities. Notably, Rolling has the highest single hit damage of a gun. Now, if you can make that one-hit kill people with a body shot where Carcano fails to, then that is worth it. If you can't one-hit, than Carcano is better.

That's what it comes down to. And I haven't seen much info.

Ultimately a sniper rifle is a luxury item. Currently it serves niche uses at most and is not something to get if you're hurting for cash. What you want to get is the varmint rifle (for hunting, lots of money returns for this), a hunting rifle (Springfield or Bolt Action, can serve for human killing and hunting alike), a shotgun (human killing extraordinaire) , and a strong repeater (Litchfield, Evans perhaps whenever that is released, or Lancaster, for quick and smooth people killing).

And you also want to work on ability cards which will be much more costly than guns (950 per card to fully upgrade).

Then when both of those are in a good place, you can think about sidearms and sniper rifles and other less essential things (though sidearms have merit if you like doing Sidearms Kills Challenges).

1. Are all rifles, with the exception of Varmint, the same when it comes to hunting?
For example, if the game tells me to use a rifle for a perfect kill, I can use either a Bolt Action or a Rolling Block Rifle, right?

2. Is there any way to not use the scope with the Rolling Block Rifle? I know down on the D-Pad activates the scope, but that doesn't seem to work with this one.

Extra: Aren't repeaters weaker than Rifles? Why am I not getting perfect pelts by shooting things in the head with a Lancaster Repeater? Logically, wouldn't that ruin the pelt less?

How dare the Gods work against me! I don't remember giving them permission.

some animals need the Repeater to get the perfect pelt. Inspect animal to see what weapon to use.

1. I am pretty sure that is the case, a rifle is a rifle as far as pelts are concerned.

2. I don't believe so, as rifles are specifically long range weapons.

Extra:
Yes, repeaters are weaker than rifles.
As far as the game is concerned, repeaters are one type of weapon, while rifles are another.
I don't believe damage comes into play, it's number of shots. If a pelt has 2 bullet holes, it'll be lower quality than a pelt with only one bullet hole.

Edited for clarity.

Oh, I know multiple shots ruin pelts, but even a single shot in the head still ruins it, which considering how realistic and immersive this game is, feels... weird.

Like I said, repeaters and rifles are different weapons as far as the game is concerned. Make sure you're using the correct "type."

In terms of bolt-action vs rolling block, they use the same ammo, so I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter which you use between rifles.

If an animal isn't 3 star before you shoot it it won't drop a perfect pelt no matter how you kill it.

If I remember right old style repeaters used a 30.30 round or similar and those bullets tumble through air, not spin (making entrance as exit wounds awful). ....erm not that that's taken into account in this game of course.

Well you can sig this if it makes you feel better! -STEROLIZER

I can't seem to get a perfect deer pelt with the repeater, even from a 3 star animal. Always drops a star, even using deadeye and hitting it in the head.
