Here's the deal: you're gonna be to have to settle into RDR2. It's a slow game, it's a comfy game, it's about living in the west. You're gonna have a lot of quiet down time. Bit of hunting. Bit of fishing. Roaming the west. Things will get wild, but most of the time it's about riding into the sunset and cleaning your guns. It's about doing chores and connecting with Arthur Morgan.
What it isn't is a particularly good action game so frame rate doesn't matter that much, go be a cowboy.

Rockstar reportedly once intended to release Red Dead Redemption 2 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but has since shelved plans to do so.
That’s according to Tez2, a Rockstar insider who’s accurately leaked information about the company’s games in the past.
Last week they claimed remasters of GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption “were on the table a few years ago” but are no longer planned.
And in a more recent online exchange shared on Twitter by a fellow Rockstar Games enthusiast, Tez2 claimed an enhanced version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is no longer being planned either.
Asked whether it’s safe to say Red Dead Redemption 2 will never receive a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S release now, Tez2 replied: “Yes. I’ve heard about those a long time ago.
“As well as their plan to come up with an Enhanced Rockstar Editor. All cancelled/halted now.”
It’s kind of sad that literally every company I grew up with in the 2000s and early 2010s has completely tanked it’s reputation. Rockstar, Bethesda, BioWare, Blizzard, Ubisoft. All of them have become shitty corporate slaves and no one is in it for the art form anymore.
Warning: This is basically a rant.
So I'm a massive fan of the Red Dead Series. The games have been a part of my life for about 11 years now and I've loved every minute I have spent on that game. When it comes to RDR 2, I completed it twice on my PS4 slim, both times to 100% completion. As for RDR 1, that was completed more times than I could count on PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One and I even tried to do it with PS Now, but the lag was too unbearable. Anyhow basically I'm a BIG fan of these wild west games. You get the point.
Recently, I was lucky enough to get my hands on a PS5. And yes, it is just as good as everyone says it is. I've been absolutely loving the experience with boot times, loading times, and the glorious 60fps across a large selection of games. I've been playing games like Far Cry 6, Miles Morales, Death Stranding Director's Cut, Battlefield, and The Last of Us Part 2. What all of these games have in common is that they are all 60fps compatible with the PS5. Some of them like the Last of Us Part 2 for example, is a PS4 backwards compatible game, however, it was updated by ND ages ago and patched with a 60fps update as well as loading times upgrade to take full advantage of the PS5 SSD and GPU. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart can even reach the boundaries of 120fps if you have a monitor that can refresh that high (I luckily do and it has been great). Now back to RDR 2, you already know I'm a huge fan, so of course, it did not take long for me to install one of my favourite games of all time onto my new console. And I was unfortunately met with absolutely ZERO differences from my experience with the PS4 slim. The game runs the exact same, apart from the faster loading times which is only possible thanks to the PS5 SSD, nothing to do with Rockstar. Now a lot of people might call me spoiled or ungrateful for being so picky about RDR2's terrible 30fps state. But trust me, go spend a couple of months playing games in 60fps and then out of nowhere drop into the blurry, mushy and delayed world of RDR 2 on the PS5, and I promise you it will break your heart. I am capable of playing games at 30fps, as I did play games like The Walking Dead Collection which hasn't been upgraded for PS5 yet either. However RDR 2 can be a fast-paced game, like when you ride a horse or have a shootout. And during those times, the input lag between me moving my finger, and the action of that taking place on screen is genuinely hard to watch. It feels like the game essentially lagging. And I don't know how to describe it, but RDR2's 30fps feels way heavier than any other game I've ever played. I still remember needing a long time trying to adjust to it when the game first came out. I'm also a casual PC gamer, so I very often play games at about 144 fps or more. And once your eyes get used to such fast refresh rates, it can be a really difficult thing going back to 30fps. And yes, If I kept on playing RDR2, I can imagine that I would eventually get used to the poor frame rate, but if I was to play other games. Like now for example I am currently playing Spider-Man Remastered on the PS5 which runs at 60fps, going between the two games would also make it a very unpleasant experience.
This brings me to the main point of this post. I am starting to absolutely hate Rockstar for the way they handle their games and the treatment they give to the communities who love and support these games. Now I understand that when you're a business, you need to make money. But F*CK ME WOULD IT BE SO HARD TO JUST PATCH THE GAME? If so many developers can do it in a heartbeat, why the hell is it so hard for Rockstar to just get a small team together and update this fkn game? A brand new generation of consoles have come out and of course, the first thing we hear is a remaster of GTA V, but not even a single update or lousy patch to make the games that are currently ALREADY out receive some form of a patch or update to make it more inviting to carry on playing on the new consoles. It's actually insulting at this point. I have been hearing rumours of Red Dead Redemption 1 getting a remaster for the PS5 and the Series X. Now don't get me wrong, I would buy that within the blink of an eye. But when on Earth will we receive a 60fps patch for RDRII? Rockstar is still investing time and money into updating and expanding Red Dead Online which is still being played by people. This is even more reason to give the game a simple upgrade. I am NOT asking for a remaster by any means. I don't think the game needs it as it is still too fresh and looks way too good to be remastered. When the PS4 first came out, Naughty Dog released a Remaster of The Last of Us Part 1 even though it had only been a year since the original game's release. However this time around, all they did for Part II, was just give it a quick 60fps patch and voila, an amazing experience on the PS5. Red Dead Redemption 2 has an unlocked Frame Rate on PC as well, and if my PC was powerful enough, I would play it on there. But that just shows that the game's engine is capable of running at 60fps with decent hardware. If Rockstar is capable of a PC release, they are definitely capable of giving it a 60fps patch for Series X and PS5. That is all I ask. And until I receive that patch, I will no longer touch RDR2. As much as I love the game, I will not replay it in its current state on my PS5, because I know I could be having a way better experience if only Rockstar cared enough.
