Samsung S21 black screen but vibrates Reddit

This morning as I was replying to a text message the screen went black (it's done this a few times but just locks the screen randomly) however, this time it went completely black and couldn't get the image back. The battery was on around 85% and I can feel the vibrations from messages/calls and when I plug in the charger. I spoke to customer services and they told me the usual "try reset by holding the power button and volume buttons" etc but this didn't help. Screen is still black. I've had this phone since launch last year, I've been seeing many people have the same issue. For a phone that cost £1000+ this is ridiculous. I've never had issues like these even back when I had a s7 and s8. Do these phones only last a year?? I was told by Samsung customer services to bring it into my "local" store so they can fix it. The closest store to me was Leicester or London. Both are 40+ miles from me. I asked if this would be looked at and fixed in store and was told yes, so I got the train into London just to be told upon arrival that I need to book a appointment for it to be "looked at". Even after telling them of the long journey and it won't be possible to keep coming back and forth.

Anybody else had this issue recently? I'm guessing yes

This morning, I put my phone on the charger when it was around 15%. Everything was going normally, until at one moment the screen flashed and the phone was no longer responsive. I believe it was at around 45% charge at that point. (No, I wasn't using the phone at that moment, I was doing some work on the same desk. The phone was in my peripheral vision and I clearly saw the whole screen go white for less than a second and after that point it shows no sign of life on the display.)

Before anyone asks whether the charger was unofficial or not; I am using the official Samsung 25W charger that came with the phone pre-order back when I got it in January 2021. Additionally, the phone has almost never been charged to 100% before since I keep the charge capped to 85%.

The only thing the phone does as of now is it vibrates whenever I hold the volume down and power buttons simultaneously. When I tried to connect it to my PC, I don't think there's any major sign of life there, either. It detects the phone for a very short period, perhaps 2 or 3 seconds and then it disappears from the devices tab on Windows.

The phone has never been dropped, is in perfect condition and something like this happening after merely a year and a half has come as a surprise to me.

I would appreciate if someone has any experience with things like this happening on the S21 series and if they could suggest a next course of action for me. Thank you beforehand!

Well, my S21 base model was low battery (10%), plugged it in but when I checked on it thirty minutes later, black screen of death. Clearly it's still on, rings and connects to Bluetooth devices. I already tried the hold power and volume down to no avail. Currently waiting for the battery to die to see if that will fix it. Very frustrating since I'm only a couple months outside the warranty. Also frustrating since I use Google authenticator for everything I can and it's a PIA to get a backup phone setup and working.

I'm hoping it recovers on it's own somehow, will probably trade it in ASAP if it does, last thing I need is an unreliable device.

Edit: letting the battery die, trying to turn it back on while dead then plugging it in and letting it fully charge worked. It's been 4 months and the issue has not come back.

Great I was searching because I have two S 21 plus phones I help people with and no black screen but are restarting.

One tip was to clear cache in safe mode....I hate explaining that to someone unless I have specific instructions, like what is up down vs enter in that menu!?

Anyway, in these 2 cases the last security update didn't fix it.

Any tips appreciated. Wonder if related. Would cache clear help?

I guess I can get a reman under warranty but what a hassle.

I'd had it for almost 2 months when today, the screen went black during a video call with a friend. He said he could still see me and i could hear him. I've tried force restarting it multiple times and it vibrates everytime. It even makes notifications sounds.

Weird thing is that, when i connect it to a monitor, the monitor lights up for Dex, it shows the time and a lock icon. Then, when i double tap the screen, the monitor goes black. Surely this means the screen is still working even if its black right?

As of writing this, it's been almost 3 hours since it went black and i don't know what to do.

So, it is my turn to get the horrendous black screen of death on my S21+ (bought March)

Try all those things recommended, power button + volume (charging and not charging).

I get this death screen once but happens fast, like the system frozen but them come back alive. But now i look into de void of the darkness of the galaxy and only see my obscure reflection.

The thing is i got a tab6 lit and a samsung tv, there's anything i can do to use the phone and try to reset or something that can turn off the phone? (i see some guys that after the battery drain out the screen work again)

How do I fix my Samsung Galaxy S21 black screen of death?

Turn off the Samsung device. Press the Power key+Volume down+Bixby at the same time for about five seconds instead of simply turning the Samsung device On. (Note: On Samsung devices without Bixby, just hold the Power button and Volume Up keys).

Why is my Samsung phone screen black but still works?

However, if your phone is working but the screen goes black, you need to check the battery firstly, since your Android battery drains too fast perhaps. If its battery works well, you are encouraged to restart the Samsung phone by long-pressing a combination of buttons.

How do I fix my Samsung black screen of death?

There are two ways you can force a restart on your device: Press and hold the Power key (or Side key) and Volume down key for 20 seconds. On devices with removable batteries, remove the battery for 60 seconds, and then reinsert it.
