Rose on a Red Field can be accepted at the beginning of the main story quest “Evil’s First Soft Touches.” When leaving the manor, you will be approached by a young woman asking after her friend. Accepting this job will unlock this side quest.

Head to Bowdon with the quest selected. Upon arrival, use your Witcher Senses to pick up a mysterious scent. Follow the scent inside one of the houses. Geralt finds the remains of a drug operation. Check out all the equipment, grab the letter on the desk, and then look at the back window, where someone clearly escaped through.

Run outside and follow the footprints to a nearby field with hay stacks. In the middle of the field you will find a corpse. Investigate the corpse then turn around 180 degrees. Walk toward the fence line with your Witcher Senses activated. On the other side of the fence is a new trail of footprints. Follow them until Geralt realizes they hop on horses. Ride Roach or walk to follow this trail.

Before too long you will come across a group of five soldiers. Quickly take care of them and inspect the cabin. Open the chest on the right-hand side to find a diagram for “Trousers diagram- untranslated.” This diagram will activate another side quest, “From Ofier’s Distant Shores.” To continue this quest, go back outside and grab the letter on the nearby cart and read it to learn the next location.

Ride off to the next waypoint where you will come across two guards. They aren’t too keen on you being there. You have three options for dealing with them. You may fight them, pay them off with 1000 crowns, or use Axii (if you have it leveled up). With the guards out of the way, head inside the hut to find an underground drug lair.

Inside, you’ll meet with the leader and hear his sob story. With his tale over, respond as you would like and get ready to fight. Use Quen and Aard to deal with the Fallen Knights . With all of them down, raid the laboratory as you wish and leave the area. Ride back to Oxenfurt to see the woman that gave you the quest. Reap your reward and the quest will conclude.

Should you do rose on a red field?

Rose on a Red Field is a secondary quest in the Hearts of Stone expansion.

Walkthrough[]

The quest begins during Evil's Soft First Touches, after Geralt is given his task from Olgierd he will be stopped by Adela while leaving, who will give him this quest.

Go to Bowdon, use your Witcher Senses and Geralt should soon remark on sensing the smell of chemicals, but the village is overrun by ghouls, so you'll have to exterminate them first. When safe, follow the scent to a house where Geralt will find evidence of Fisstech production, a warning letter and a trail of footprints. Following the trail you will eventually find Kluivert's body, and now you will need to find who shot him so look behind the fence to find other footprints and follow those. These footprints will lead to a set of horseshoe prints in the center of Bowdon. The horseshoeprints lead out of town, and around a marsh where drowned dead may pop up out, but you can just run past them if you don't want to fight.

Eventually you will reach a bandit camp full of Fallen Knights (which you may have visited before for From Ofier's Distant Shores). On the wagon nearby, you will find a letter. Read the letter to locate the hiding place.

Head to the hiding place and there will be two knights outside. Approach them and a cutscene will start allowing Geralt to talk or fight right away. If you decide to talk, you are given three choices:

If you dealt with them peacefully you can still attack them and loot your coin back if you chose to bribe them. If you fight them at any point, they'll also drop the key for the nearby door, though it's useless if they already agreed to let you in.

However you dealt with them, head inside but prepare for combat. In the back of the cave, you will meet Ulrich who, even if you try to leave, will recognize Geralt as Jacques de Aldersberg's killer and order the knights to kill him. After everyone is dead, go to The Alchemy in Oxenfurt to collect your reward. You can choose to tell Adela what happened and who killed Kluivert, or just ask for your reward and it makes no difference. (150

Journal entry[]

"The White Wolf", "the Butcher of Blaviken" – Geralt gathered many sobriquets on his Path, one of which was the colorful and, I dare say, apt, appellation of "Puss Peepers." This he gained during his adventure with Olgierd, when a cheeky young woman in Olgierd's company pinned him as the man best able to track down the scoundrel who killed her friend, Kluivert.Kluivert had indeed been killed. Though much time had passed since the murder, the witcher hoped he could still find enough evidence to establish who was responsible. It turned out Kluivert's death was not the work of common bandits or deserters, but knights of the recently dissolved Order of the Flaming Rose. Geralt realized the brethren who had killed Kluivert were but part of a much larger contingent. To prevent any further such murders and fully avenge Kluivert, he would have to find the knights' leader. The orders Geralt found on the knights he defeated not only shed light on their activities – they'd given up defending the defenseless and switched to brewing narcotics – but revealed the location of their hideout. Geralt decided to take a short break from monster hunting to pay their Grand Master a courtesy call. The witcher and the Grand Master did not take a liking to each other. After a short talk about the Order's past and mission, they moved on to armed combat. This fight could clearly have only one outcome – Ulrich met the same fate as his infamous predecessor, Jacques de Aldersberg. With this Geralt of Rivia, alias "Puss Peepers," avenged Kluivert and completed the task allotted him. He collected his promised reward and set off on his Path.
