Crunchyroll licenced series was initially launched and illustrated by Fuzichoco. The plot of the anime is inspired by the Hachi-nan tte, Sore wa Nai deshou! Light novel series written by the author Y.A. with the illustrator Fuji Choko. The series is currently up to Volume 19 on March 25, 2020.

Like many light novel collections The story was initially published as a self-published web novel between 2013 and 2017. It was published on the Shosetsuka Ni Naro website prior to being purchased by Japanese media company Media Factory in April 2014.

In 2015, Y.A. collaborated along with illustrator Fuzichoco to develop The 8th Son manga adaptation. The manga was published in Japan by Kadokawa Shoten, the manga has reached Volume 7 as of December 19, 2019.

Unfortunately there is nobody North American publisher has announced an official English translation of The 8th Son light novels or manga series. However, there are a few unofficial fan-created translations on the internet.

When Episode 12 came out in June 2020, the manga was already past Chapter 50, but fan translations only went up to Chapter 44.

If the story in a novel is condensed into one cour, with just 12 episodes, it’s likely that the series will cut out several details to switch between the most important plot elements.

More interesting anime like Re:ZERO and The Rising of the Shield Hero challenge this myth of the Reincarnated Japanese everyone being gifted with power.
