I'll admit, I'm a little biased because I think that Monte Cook is somehow Gygax reincarnated before he died and would drink the mans bath water. But that horrible image aside, The Book of Vile Darkness gets a lot of hate but I never understood why. The spells are all pretty decent ( maybe not dance of ruin) , it gives you a ton of new ideas for items, the corrupted locations are all awesome and can be jammed into any campaign,it gives you an entire breakdown of the demonic pantheons.( that just might be my fetish for planescape causing bias though), the prestige classes are pretty cool if you're going demon/devil heavy in your game, and the optional rules (i.e. sacrificial rituals) are things that any campaign with an evil character eventually wants to know. On the flip side, I hear very little about the Book of Exalted Deeds and it's along the same line. So, what am I missing?
The world of Dungeons and Dragons is a constant battle between the two forces of the universe: the holy and the profane. Light and dark. Good and evil.
We know all about the goodly forces in the world, from the iron-willed paladin to the devout cleric, but what do we know of the evil, immoral, and truly vile?
Within the Book of Vile Darkness, players and DMs alike will find a host of material suitable for their use. Players may enjoy the Circle of Infestation Druid or the Hungering Maw Warlock, while DMs might discover the rules for Dark Speech to be rather intriguing.
This supplemental material was both inspired by and converted from Monte Cook's original Book of Vile Darkness for 3.5 Edition.
When buying this material, you will receive the following:
- 5 new vile rules!
- 7 new foul feats, ranging from Dark Speaker to Deformed!
- 30+ unholy magical items!
- 60+ evil spells like the Song of Festering Death!
- 7 new wicked subclasses such as the Lifedrinker Wizard!
