The June Motel has a heated pool, an indoor-outdoor restaurant and all the frosé you could ever need. Here's our review of Sauble Beach's latest arrival.

In need of something with a little razzle-dazzle... and rosé? We're packing our swimsuits and heading to the retro town of Sauble Beach for a little R&R and a lobster roll by the heated pool at the newest June Motel in Sauble Beach.

This is the second motel adventure by best friends in business and in life April Brown and Sarah Sklash, who share a passion for discovering new travel destinations, good design and, of course, good wine. After renovating and creating the insanely popular June Motel in Prince Edward County, minutes away from some of the best wineries in P.E.C., it was time to do it all over again — except bigger.

The June Motel, Sauble Beach: What's the draw

If you think you know motels, think again. The June Motel in Sauble Beach has completely reimagined the entire motel experience. From the moment you open your room's pink door, you can tell something special is waiting on the other side.

Every design detail has been thoughtfully curated to give off a 1970's beach vibe — neon signs, hanging plants, custom wallpaper with colours inspired by the famous Sauble Beach sunsets. Each room has a view of the pool, the heartbeat of the motel, that guests can enjoy from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

The June Motel, Sauble Beach: What to eat

You could cartwheel from your room to Heydays restaurant and tuck into a hot lobster roll or crispy fish cakes in minutes. Heydays serves casual coastal food done really, really well. Inspired by New England seafood shacks and California's coast, Heydays was once a local Sauble Beach hotspot and they're bringing it back to its, errm heyday, one seafood platter at a time.

The food at Heydays is nostalgic without being tacky, and every inventive, delicious dish shines in its own way. Heydays is casual smash burgers and decadent bone-in rib eye steaks. The veg-forward casarecce pasta and the buttermilk-brined old bay fried chicken are as comforting as a warm towel after a dip in the water. The side of fresh cut fries are so addicting, you'll want them as a main. Plus, Heydays has fun cocktails and one heck of a wine list loaded with Prince Edward County favourites and European vino.

The June Motel, Sauble Beach: What else

The lobby doubles as a shop that showcases products created by female entrepreneurs. You can bring pieces of The June Motel home with you from coffee mugs that say "this might be wine" (it is) to rolls of the wallpaper featured in the rooms. Put on a vinyl record and sip some coffee or herbal, hangover-curing tea on those slow mornings or head to the beach (a five-minute walk) for yoga every Saturday at 9 a.m.

The turquoise clear waters of Tobermory and hiking trails dotted along the Bruce Peninsula are just an hour drive away. If chilling by the pool is more your thing, there are lawn games and pool service to deliver frosé from their on-site slushie machine — we'll take two, thanks.

Rooms from $250.

How is The June Motel doing now?

March 2020 finally came, bearing a myriad of complications for Brown, Sklash, and their crew. Despite these complications, though, they managed to transform the motel into an Instagram influencer haven and opened The June Motel in September 2020, per Decider.

Who owns The June Motel?

The June Motel was created by us – April Brown and Sarah Sklash – just two best friends who share a love for discovering new travel destinations, good wine and creative designs.

When did The June Motel Sauble open?

We opened for the summer of 2017, and the place has been super-successful right from the beginning. People were hungry for a cool place to stay in the County.

Is Sauble Beach worth?

Sauble Beach is one of the best beaches in Ontario Canada. White and soft sand, shallow and transparent water. It is a beach worth going to.
