The Perks of being a Wallflower full movie reddit

I went into this movie not knowing much about the book, or the movie for that matter. All that being said i thought it was really great, i was a little surprised that Hollywood let the author of the original text write his screenplay and on top of that direct his movie adaptation. I thought all the kids in the movie did a great job. this was supposed to be Emma Watson's big post Harry Potter movie and she was good but in my opinion i thought Ezra Miller had the best performance in the movie. I think if Ezra keeps on doing work as good as this and We Need to Talk About Kevin and The Perks of Being a Wallflower he will have a very bright future, Logan Lerman was also pretty damn good as Charlie. The supporting cast was well cast, i really like Paul Rudd and Mea Whitman. The movie trailers could be a little misleading, the content of the movie got a little dark but did not bother me at all.

I am not sure why I hadn’t taken the time to watch this film. Wasn’t only entraining and heart warming but, also reflected on the reality that many young adults endure every day. I thought it was a modest and unassuming master peace. Dark enough to keep you wondering what’s the final twist of the plot. It had plenty of humor and sweet moments. The cast was brilliant in the way they managed to be so real that you can think of them as one of your high school friends. Never overly dramatic even in the highest tension points but, just as close as you can get to real human reactions. The music was great too. Highly recommend this film.

Nothing wrong with the film making, some very cool shots and music, but...

Honestly I guess I just didn't get it. A few people took me and I had no idea what it was about (aside from them telling me it was an amazing book), totally open minded, but really all I got from it was how great his life became once a few people decided to be nice to him, and once he started liking old records and the rocky horror picture show.

I felt that he never changed anything to make his life better. Anything good that happened came from the other characters. He even did things that sabotaged his relationships with them.

Ok, that's a bad way of explaining it. I felt like if some of the jocks decided for no reason to be nice to him, he would start liking football and cars. When the "wallflowers" started being friendly, he just enjoyed what his friends enjoyed.

It was like watching a sheep. Whichever group took him in, I felt like he would be the same person at the end of high school, just with different interests.

I just couldn't relate very well to the main character. A few parts were like "Man, I've been there", but his actions just seemed strange (even after he finally tells you what was up with his aunt)

Since I haven't read the book, is there any explanation as to what I should have been looking for in the movie?

Honestly one of the biggest surprises of last year and one of the most relatable movies I have seen in recent memory. It really hits you in all the right places. Also, it's interesting to note that the the author of the book directed the movie, which is something I don't think happens very often. Great movie.

I wish more adaptations had such tight involvement from the source creator. I too was really impressed by Perks. I normally have a big aversion to coming of age movies, but this was done without getting too cheesy teen-drama and while managing to provide some actual umph that resonates past any age barrier.

I was also super impressed with the acting, particularly of Ezra Miller who I thought was absolutely fantastic.

level 2

If you haven't, watch "We Need to Talk About Kevin."

Ezra Miller is scary as shit.

level 2

Miller was fantastic, I was thinking he had to be like 25, 26 (plus he just looks old). 20! BLEW MY MIND!

level 2

I read somewhere that Stephen King tried to direct one of his movies and the result was so bad never wanted to try it again. :)

level 1

Not gonna lie, I cried like a damn baby.

level 1

Blew me away. I had no idea what it was about, having missed the book. I thought it was three kids on a road trip or something. No idea it was about high school around the same time I grew up. I had some hard times in high school too, and a lot of this hit close to home.

When the movie ended I had to stop and take some perspective on my life. It's been a long time since any movie hit me that hard.

level 2

I think a lot of people have hard times in high school. Which, is why when these movies are done right, they really hit you in the heart.

level 2

it's not too late to read the book! it really is amazing. the ending won't be as spectacular since you've seen the movie (there weren't any hints in the book... the obvious references early on in the movie were the only things I didn't like about it) but its still a whirlwind of emotion.

level 2

The same thing happened to me. I sat back and had some deep thoughts. For a couple days actually.

level 1

One of my all-time favourite books, but I didn't get a chance to see it in cinema as I wanted to see it with a friend who was away at uni. I bought a DVD copy the other day, and we're finally getting the chance to see it tomorrow. Hope it doesn't let me down.

level 2

I'd wager that it's equal, and possibly better than the book. Awesome, awesome movie. I'm sure you'll love it.

level 2

Never read the book. My family sat down in the living room to watch it and for the last half hour I had a lump in my throat that hurt like a bitch. The movie ended and I walked out w/o a word. Sat down on my bed and just weeped. I went through depression and it was perfectly portrayed in the movie. The movie got me into reading again :)

level 1

Watching the movie was horribly tear jerking.

Reading the book after was even worse.

I know that feel bro.

level 1

Yep. Great film, hit me hard.

level 1

I had only seen Percy Jackson and was not expecting much from Logan Lerman but he was absolutely phenomenal.

level 2

Logan Lerman was fantastic in Meet Bill.

level 1

Read the book. I'm a man and my girlfriend told me to read it, and I cried even harder than in the movies (which she dragged me to).

level 2

Did you cry more than Charlie?
