Things We Don't Talk About was written by Pandora Owl and published on January 28th, 2020. The pages of this book hold a collection of Owl's personal thoughts, poems, and words about anxiety, depression, and mental health. The is no pacing, but all of the pages have a date on which the insert was written. There was no craft at all to this book; it seems chaotic and unorderly. Mental health is unique to each person experiencing it, and there is not one way to encapsulate how it makes someone feel. The back of the book says, "it can get a little too raw for some and a little too real for others." I completely disagree. I do not feel as though this book went deep enough. Mental health is such a "taboo" topic, and this is just an example of why it is seen as taboo. I was very excited when I found and ordered this book, and I was highly disappointed in what I got. I felt a glimpse of what the author was going for, but it did not give what was promised by the title and statement on the back. There was no craft to this collection, and my advice to the author would be to dig deeper and let it all out. ...more

Soooo plain. It reminds me of random thoughts an emo girls scribble on their math notebooks. It lacks complexity or cleverness or anything that would make it something worth reading. I hope that this wasn’t just a lazy money grab book in expense of depression. But just author’s first wobbly steps in the world of poetry..

This book will make you think, but only if you allow it. It‘s definitely not for people who don‘t want to reflect on their own thoughts and do not think along while reading.

This book was absolutely awful. Was it written by a 10 year old? I feel like I'm reading my old diaries from middle school. I'll be giving this one to Good Will. This book was absolutely awful. The whole way through I was thinking to myself: “who green lit the publishing of this book? who allowed this atrocity to be placed in the poetry aisle of so many bookstores?”.
Unbearable.

Some really poignant and relatable pieces in this collection. The raw emotion and the way in which the pieces are in date order as opposed to being ordered thematically encapsulates the haphazard emotions and thoughts which we all go through now and again, some more than others. The book was raw when it needed to, plain where it should be. It was nice to see some of my emotions so tastefully put into words, something I wish I could do but alas, not.

I wish I had found the book a bit earlier, when the younger me was more vulnerable & fragile, unknowing how to deal with pain. Though I’m more grown and more aware of hurt, it doesn’t mean it doesn’t still sting but the book did a good job in helping me see it, even if it’s in written form. Will be rereading from time to time

the title gives away everything. the things we're scared to talk about or to say out loud in the book. no glorification just pure honesty and vulnerability. I love Owl descriptions of his feeling and situation. although the topics mentioned in the book a sad and serious it gives the reader a feeling of comfort. if you ever struggled with anxiety or depression this book will describe you're feelings perfectly at that time. you'll feel understood and also kind of inspired. life is pressious and ev the title gives away everything. the things we're scared to talk about or to say out loud in the book. no glorification just pure honesty and vulnerability. This book was read for a non profit mental health awarness challenge for The Lighthouse Project. This book takes a lot and gives a lot. I found myself having to read parts out loud. And, reread many pages multiple times. It's very healthy and courageous to see people openly talking about their struggles. Borrowed from a student, I am actively looking for poetry to recommend to my students that is relatable. This is a good one. There are some real gems in here that are a lens into the world on young adults and struggling through the pandemic, isolation, and, well, just life. These poems and thoughts are dated from 2014 on and it is spot on.

I enjoyed this collection of poems. I would definitely read more by this author. What I love about poetry like this is, it doesn’t take a large combination of words to leave an impact on the reader. Few or many, it doesn’t matter to me as long as I feel a connection to the work.

The things we dont talk about book

Some very powerful content collected here. I’m not sure exactly what I was expecting but most of the pages were simply a sentence or just a few words. I wish they had been more like short essays rather.

So, I read this book a long time ago but somehow didn’t remember I did. There were a lot of grammatical errors and punctual errors in this book that I circled. And because of that, I only really paid attention to the errors. Besides that it was good and I appreciated the talk about mental health.

I don’t really know about this book. Like some poems I like but most of them wasn’t that good. But the ones I liked I liked and the ones I didn’t like I really didn’t like.

I want to try more books like this though, poems.

The things we dont talk about book

was a good read and loved the message that was being written but lacked detail and needed more depth but if your looking for an easy read (read in less then 15 mins) and want to easily connect with a book that can’t put your thoughts and feelings into words this book may be the right one for you.

She has a bad way with words,
She lived through so much of pain and trauma and sucidal thoughts but somehow manged to put very very less emotions in her poems.

But what can I say, I'm a really big Rupi Kaur stan :))
