USATF is committed to mitigating health risks associated with COVID-19 at the 2022 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships and the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships. The COVID-19 protocols listed below are subject to update at any time, based on changing national and local metrics and local public health authority regulations.
- COVID-19 testing and/or proof of vaccination are not required for participants in the event (except Registered Medical Providers must be fully vaccinated).
- Participants are encouraged to follow CDC recommendations, which include self-testing within 24 hours prior to travel, wearing a face covering on airplanes and public transportation, and testing any time they experience symptoms of COVID-19.
- Participants should continually self-monitor symptoms and notify USATF medical personnel for assistance should they experience symptoms of COVID-19 while in Eugene.
- USATF will follow CDC guidelines on masking recommendations, based on the CDC COVID-19 Community Level for Lane County, Oregon
[Link]. Levels are updated every Thursday evening, and the level for Lane County, Oregon on 6/9/22 was HIGH.
- If the CDC COVID-19 Community Level is HIGH, masks will be required to be worn in indoor spaces affiliated with the USATF Outdoor Championships, including credentialing, team processing, and underneath the stadium (except for athletes engaged in warm-up).
- If the CDC COVID-19 Community Level is HIGH, it is recommended that all participants follow CDC recommendations and wear masks in indoor spaces (such as hotels and restaurants) while in the Eugene community and broader Lane County.
- All participants are encouraged to practice mitigating behaviors of virus transmission throughout the championships, including physical distancing (when possible) and frequent hand washing.

The 2022 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships were held in Eugene, Oregon organized by USA Track and Field. It was serving as the national championships in track and field for the United States.
The results of the event determined qualification for the 2022 World Athletics Championships, also held in Eugene. Provided they had achieved the World standard or are in the World Athletics ranking quota, the top three athletes in each event gained a place on the World team. In the event that a leading athlete did not hold the standard, or an athlete withdrew, the next highest finishing athlete with the standard was selected instead. USA Track and Field announced their World Championship roster based on these guidelines in July 2022. The results determined qualification for the 2022 NACAC Championships and the team was announced on 12 August 2022.[1]
The selection events for the men's and women's marathon were held 2021 Boston Marathon, 2021 Chicago Marathon and 2021 New York marathon,[2] the trials for the men's 35 km race walk were held on January 16, 2022, at San Diego Christian College and the Santee Town Center station in Santee, California and the trials for the 20 km race walk were held on February 6, 2022, at Cuyamaca College.[3][4] The USATF Multi Event Championships (Heptathlon & Decathlon) occurred May 6-7, 2022 at the University of Arkansas’ John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Arkansas and 10,000 meter races were held at University of Oregon' Hayward Field in Eugene on May 27th, 2022.[5]
