Rapid City Services

Volunteers of America serves the Black Hills of South Dakota, focused on empowering individuals and families of all economic backgrounds, age and abilities to reach their potential through support, services and goal setting at no financial cost to the individual.

Mommy's Closet, a free crisis resource provider that lends a helping hand to low-income families with children up to age the age of five, is the National Diaper Bank for all of Western South Dakota.

The Veterans Outreach Center provides veterans and their families a safe place to connect during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. It serves as a point of entry into the human services continuum of care for eligible veterans. Veteran Affairs case managers are on site by appointment to help veterans reintegrate into the community by connecting them with resources for housing, employment, healthcare and other basic life necessities.

We serve the community through our HIV Prevention and Ryan White (Part B) programs. These programs provide education, counseling, and referrals for those who are at-risk of contracting HIV and those with a positive HIV status. VOA HIV Health Services teaches prevention and risk reduction methods to limit the chances a person has of contracting HIV. Those living with HIV are connected with vital resources to ensure they receive the treatment needed to live a healthy and full life.

The Veteran Outreach Center (VOC) in Rapid City, South Dakota is the latest in a number of Veteran services offered by Volunteers of America Northern Rockies across a three-state region.

The VOC provides Veterans and their families a safe place to connect during the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. One of the goals of the VOC is to serve as a point of entry into the human services continuum of care for eligible Veterans. Veteran Affairs case managers are on site by appointment to help Veterans reintegrate into the community by connecting them with resources for housing, employment, healthcare and other basic life necessities.

The center itself is equipped with free laundry, shower facilities, a message & mail center, a telephone, as well as a computer resource center and community day room. Coffee and snacks are available free of charge, and so are laundry soap and hygiene items. Peer groups are available and community partners can utilize the space to meet with and assist Veterans on a case by case basis.
