What can you use instead of Cantu?

I still consider myself a gel girl through and through but I recently tried out Cantu's Coconut Curling Cream to see what it would do to my hair. I actually like it -- it gives pretty good definition and pretty good hold. It's still not as good as my beloved Eco Styler Olive Oil gel but I like that I now have another product option for when I don't feel like waiting a hundred hours for my hair to dry (with the cream it takes maybe have the time to dry as the gel).

But the problem is -- I hate the smell! It's so strong and so sweet it makes me nauseated. Is there anything else out there that is also a cream that performs similarly for around the same price? I know DevaCurl has an awesome cream but I'm no longer willing to pay the exorbitant prices for it. I also have already tried Shea Moisture's Smoothie... hopefully there are other suggestions? Thanks!

Why do people say not to use Cantu?

This is the most stated con for Cantu's products, i.e, that it contains alcohol. Alcohol in your hair products like hair sprays for women, gel, and creams can lead to dry hair that appears fried and lifeless. It also reacts with your hair which in long term has a damaging effect o your hair strands.

What can I use instead of curl cream?

If you don't have any curl cream or want to use something more natural, you can use shea butter, coconut oil, or aloe vera gel to make an easy DIY curl cream. You can also use gel or mousse. However, these will make your hair stiff.
