What does Oura ring track during the day

At Oura, your feedback fuels innovation and positive change. You’ve asked. We’ve listened. Powered by green LEDs, Daytime Heart Rate measurement is one of the most requested features, and it will now be available with the new Oura Ring Generation 3.

Whether you’re trying to manage your stress or improve your fitness, understanding how your resting heart rate develops over time is crucial to follow — and Daytime Heart Rate helps you do just that.

Your heart rate is a window into how your body reacts to your choices during the day. And, with Daytime Heart Rate, we are extending our metrics to the waking hours with heart rate & Restorative Time. Measuring heart rate is not easy. The further away you are from your arteries, the harder it is to get good data from the heart. While other wrist-based wearables tend to measure from the capillaries on the top of your wrist, Oura measures from the arteries in your fingers for more accurate readings.

What’s New?

  1. Unlock the day. Seeing how your resting heart rate develops throughout the day and overtime is a great way to understand how your body responds to your routine, meals, stress levels, and environment. How does an extra cup of coffee impact your heart rate? How does your heart rate change when you’re dealing with a stressful period?
  2. Restorative Time. Daytime heart rate measures the amount of Restorative Time you had while awake. This bridges the gap between night-time measurements and daytime measurements. Your ring is able to detect when your body is in a relaxed state by looking at your heart rate and skin temperature. Taking time to relax during your day can really help your recovery.
  3. Live Heart Rate. Check-in with yourself by seeing your heart rate in real-time to understand how your body feels anytime and anywhere.

What does the Oura Ring track?

With precise sensors, Oura packs state-of-the-art heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), temperature, activity, and sleep monitoring technology into a lightweight, non-invasive ring. When you visit your doctor, there's a reason they measure your pulse from your finger and not the wrist: accuracy.

Does Oura Ring measure HRV during the day?

As a result, any measurement of heart rate or HRV during movement with infrared is worse than a measurement with green light. And because of that, the Oura Ring doesn't measure heart rate, HRV, or body temperature while you're active.

How does Oura Ring detect activity?

By using a 3D accelerometer, the Oura Ring is able to measure the movement of your hand to estimate whole-body activity (physical activity) and leg movement (step count). Your Activity Score ranges from 0-100. Scoring anywhere from 85-100 means you've achieved an optimal balance between activity and rest.
