My name is 'Leanne' and I really dislike it. I would love to change it, but my mother loves it and I know it would really upset her. I'm in my 20s.
I'm wondering if there are any nicknames I could take on for it instead? I used to have the nickname 'Lee' which I don't like because it sounds quite masculine. I've also sometimes been called 'Leanna' which I much prefer, and would love to change my name to 'Leanna' instead but it seems like a lot of faff just to change one letter
Any ideas?

Mine names Leanne and I've only really had people call me Lee or Leanny. My family call me Lanny. I don't mind it.

I'd go for Lea. That way you're truncating your name to something classic rather than changing it as such.

Well it's you that has to live with it OP, so if you want to change it I would. I'd agree it isn't a great name. I am sure your mum wouldn't want you to be unhappy, and you can keep it as a middle name if you want.
Otherwise calling yourself Anne or Anna - which are both lovely - seems obvious and you could use Annie or Nancy as a nn if you wanted.
Leah is OK also.

I have a friend called Leanne as well but she is knows as Shelly. Her middle name is Michelle and he hates Leanne so she is Shelly. Not many people know that Shelly is not her name!

You can always go by Leanna without legally changing it.

Just start calling yourself Leanna & signing your name as thar, no need to change it legally, you wouldn't change it legally to a nickname would you?

Most of the Leanne's I know are shortened to Lee. I know you say it is quite masculine but I'm not convinced. I know a quite a few women called Lee.
My first girl crush as a teenager was called Lee. She was so lovely. I have a good association with the name.

I know a female Leigh so wouldn't necessarily find it a masculine name.
I'd also go for Lea(h) as a shortening in your case.
Or 'L' ('elle').
Actually I like the name Leanne.
