What is the meaning of weather with you?

Walking 'round the room singing Stormy Weather
At Fifty Seven Mount Pleasant Street
Well, it's the same room, but everything's different
You can fight the sleep, but not the dream

Things ain't cookin' in my kitchen
Strange affliction wash over me
Julius Caesar and the Roman Empire
Couldn't conquer the blue sky

Well, there's a small boat made of china
It's going nowhere on the mantelpiece
Well, do I lie like a lounge-room lizard
Or do I sing like a bird released?

Everywhere you go, always take the weather with you
Everywhere you go, you always take the weather
Everywhere you go, you always take the weather with you
Everywhere you go, always take the weather, the weather with you

Everywhere you go, always take the weather with you
Everywhere you go, you always take the weather
Everywhere you go, you always take the weather with you
Everywhere you go, you always take the weather
You take the weather, the weather with you

(Everywhere you go)

Everywhere you go, always take the weather with you
Everywhere you go, you always take the weather
Everywhere you go, always take the weather with you
Everywhere you go, you always take the weather
Take the weather, the weather with you

What is the meaning of weather with you?

Songfacts®:

  • When questioned about the existence of 57 Mount Pleasant Street, Crowded House lead singer Neil Finn responded: "There's actually lots of them. My sister used to live in Mount Pleasant Road in Auckland, but it wasn't Number 57. The number she was at didn't sound very musical." >>

    Dingo - London, United Kingdom

  • Neil Finn told the story of the song, which he wrote with his brother/bandmate Tim Finn, to Performing Musician: "Tim had the first line. We started doing the strum that you hear at the beginning of the song, I came up with the little guitar figure, and the rest of the song fell from there. We were trying to imagine a time and a place, and the line 'Walking 'round the room singing Stormy Weather' helped us get into some atmosphere of somebody troubled who is always on their own in a room. We were trying to find lines that described the scene, like the 'small boat made of china', and that feeling of ennui or languishing that permeates the song. Ultimately, the theme of the song is, of course, that you are creating your own weather, you are making your own environment, always."

Walking 'round the room singing Stormy Weather

At Fifty Seven Mount Pleasant Street

Well it's the same room,

but everything's different

You can fight the sleep, but not the dream

Things ain't cookin' in my kitchen

Strange affliction wash over me

Julius Caesar and the Roman Empire

Couldn't conquer the blue sky

Everywhere you go,

always take the weather with you

Everywhere you go,

always take the weather

Everywhere you go,

always take the weather with you

Everywhere you go,

always take the weather, the weather with you

Well, do I lie like a loungeroom lizard

Or do I sing like a bird released?

Everywhere you go,

always take the weather with you

Everywhere you go,

always take the weather

Everywhere you go,

always take the weather with you

Everywhere you go,

always take the weather,

take the weather, the weather with you

Everywhere you go,

always take the weather with you

Everywhere you go,

always take the weather

Everywhere you go,

always take the weather with you

Everywhere you go,

always take the weather,

take the weather, the weather with you

What is at 57 Mount Pleasant Street?

57 Mount Pleasant Street is a fictitious address as far as the number goes, but my sister used to live in a house in Mount Pleasant Road in Auckland and that's what we were thinking of when we wrote the song.

What was crowded House biggest hit?

(Don't Dream It's Over, Better Be Home Soon, Fall At Your Feet, Four Seasons In One Day, Distant Sun) The success of “Don't Dream It's Over” changed the band's commercial fortunes and introduced a major new songwriter in the melodic tradition of Paul McCartney and Elton John.
