What level to leave Fort Joy

I’m sorry if this sounds like a painfully noob question but I’m a bit lost.

I understand that there is no one specific way to go about doing something in this game. Quests aren’t linear. There are many ways to not only go about completing a quest but activating them as well.

But I managed to get out of the fort at level 4. I still have my collars on - not sure if they could be removed by now.

I met a skeleton merchant. Right now I’m supposed to be taking a ship I think? I encountered these shrieker things blocking my way. I freed a dragon but he wants me to kill a witch for him, and that fight is a few levels above me and I can’t seem to beat it.

I also climbed up some vines to find a dungeon(?) where there are also fights that seem to tough for me (level 6 I believe).

So I feel really stuck. I know there are many ways to progress but I nevertheless feel very very stuck. Have I just missed something entirely? I switched to the easiest difficulty and still am having trouble.

What level to leave Fort Joy

I would imagine so, since there are fights within Fort Joy itself that will mess you up if you're underleveled for them.

I'd say the ballpark is level 4-6, depending on how much of a killing spree you go on,before leaving Fort Joy (but not Act 1, you can end Act 1 at a way higher level).

What level to leave Fort Joy

If you mean the entire Act, ideally Level 8. The fort itself I believe the game expects you to be level 4-5, since the magisters are level 4 before you escape.

What level to leave Fort Joy

I tried to complete as much of the area as i could before leaving and ended up at lvl 8 for the fight with Bishop Alexander. But i really took my time to explore/fight/find/steal/buy everything i could (40ish hours lol). Even so, i know i missed stuff for sure. Guess the rest will have to wait for my solo run with Fane.

Is the level I leave Fort Joy a big deal?

I saw some people here in the forums saying they left Fort Joy at level 9, I also saw a map with areas per level of the second island and the lowest level was 9, yet I'm on the ship right now and I'm level 8.

I fought Alexandar at level 7, the battle was easy even underleveled as I sneaked into some good positions, but I got level 8 from it, so I'm at the start of the level, far from 9.

I gave up trying to find something else to get level, I did every quest I could find and killed every undead, douchbag and magister on the island.

Is it a big deal that will come bite me later or is the xp going to be meaningless later on when I assume every enemy will give 20k+ xp?

What is the best way to leave Fort Joy?

The best option is to use the Seeker's boat. At the end of the hall in the dungeons lies two Magisters and a little boy. After defending the boy and killing the Magisters, the player can assure the boy that they know and helped his trusted friend.
