According to Jeff's website it's a Freddie Gregory Custom HR. You could go to www.jeffcoffin.com and ask on his forum for additional details. Joined Apr 13, 2003 · 3,419 Posts
It is indeed a Gregory. I don't know the exact tip opening, but he let me try it and it was stuffy to me, so I assume it's probably around a .105. Certainly isn't stuffy for him, though. Joined Feb 3, 2003 · 1,466 Posts

In the "Live at the Quick" DVD it looks like he's playing a Barone of some sort. I could be wrong though. Joined Feb 3, 2003 · 273 Posts
According to Phil, Jeff used to play a Barone Hollywood, according to other sources, he played a Barone Contemporary. Either way, he got a great sound out of it. Joined Apr 13, 2003 · 3,419 Posts
His soprano piece is the killer. It's a Theo piece and everybody who plays it wants one. gary· The most prolific Distinguished SOTW poster, ForumJoined Feb 4, 2003 · 27,647 Posts

I believe his web site at the time said Barone Hollywood mpc and Yamaha "prototype" (read YTS Z) sax. Joined Jan 10, 2006 · 20 Posts

In last August's Downbeat p. 89 it says this: "Jeff Coffin chooses setups that give him the most flexibility on each horn. On alto, Coffin uses a Vandoren V-16 hard-rubber mouthpiece, either an 8 or a 9. The 8 has rich harmonics and allows him to do his double-horn nod to Rahsaan Roland Kirk. The 9 produces a bigger sound because of its large
chamber. Joined Jan 10, 2006 · 20 Posts
