ST. LOUIS — The skies will be illuminated on July 4 as people across the St. Louis area celebrate Independence Day. There are plenty of events to choose from, with some also hosting carnivals, parades and more for America's birthday.

Here's a list of local fireworks shows taking place:

St. Louis

The annual downtown event runs from July 2-4 with live music and vendors, culminating in its biggest-ever fireworks show on July 4.

When: July 4, about 9:30 p.m.

Where: The Gateway Arch

Alton

Enjoy food and live entertainment at Liberty Bank Amphitheater followed by a fireworks show over the Mississippi River.

When: July 3 at around 9:30 p.m.

Where: Liberty Bank Amphitheater, 1 Riverfront Dr.

Bridgeton 

Join the city of Bridgeton for their 4th of July Celebration with a parade that begins at 10 a.m. at St. James Subdivision and continues west on Natural Bridge to Target. Evening festivities begin at 6 p.m. with concessions, food trucks, and live music with fireworks beginning at dusk (around 9 p.m.).

When: July 4, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. 

Where: Bridgeton Municipal Athletic Complex 

Chesterfield

The event will feature live entertainment, food trucks, inflatables, pony rides, Circus Kaput and more. Lawn chairs, blankets, outside food and drinks are allowed (no glass or tobacco products).

When: July 4, 6:30 p.m. until fireworks end (fireworks begin at 9 p.m.)

Collinsville

This free event goes all day with a little something for everyone, including a car cruise, petting zoo, games for kids and adults, corn hole tournament, beer truck, food and a craft show.

When: July 2, 11 a.m-9 p.m.

Where: 1022 Vandalia Street

Columbia, IL

Kids can decorate their bikes and join the parade down Main St. to Meter Park from 10 a.m. - noon. Other festivities including food, games, and fireworks will be available as well for guests from 11 a.m.-11 p.m.

When: July 4, 10 a.m.-11 p.m.

Where: American Legion Park

Dupo, IL

The village of Dupo, IL is putting on a festival for Independence Day complete with activities for kids like a bounce house, balloon artist and giant Jenga. There will also be several food options like hot dogs, funnel cakes and more. And the Splash Pad will be open too, so don't forget your suits!

When: July 4, 3-9 p.m., (fireworks at 9:15 p.m.)

Where: Dupo Community Park

East St. Louis

The Black Woodstock Foundation hosts its 2nd Annual Festival to support African American communities and local businesses in the area. The event is free to the public and will include live music, over 50 vendors, and a St. Louis Blues Hockey Team obstacle course.

When: July 3-4 from 2-8 p.m., fireworks on July 4 at 8 p.m.

Edwardsville

The annual free fireworks show will cap off an evening of food and fun.

When: July 2, 4-11 p.m.

Where: Edwardsville American Legion Post #199

Ellisville

Enjoy a concert from Griffin and the Gargoyles, along with barbecue and drink vendors.

When: July 4, 7-9:30 p.m.

Where: Bluebird Park

Eureka 

Enjoy live music from Spectrum Band, local food trucks, and a firework display with the Eureka Parks and Recreation Department. 

When: July 2, 6-10 p.m. (fireworks at 9:15 p.m.)

Where: Central Avenue Spur (394 South Central Avenue)

Ferguson

The day-long celebration includes a parade, festival, live music and fireworks. The parade starts at 10 a.m. at the Plaza at 501 and ends at January-Wabash Memorial Park. The festival goes from noon-9 p.m. with fireworks starting at about 9:15 p.m.

When: July 4, 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m.

Florissant

The event kicks off with food trucks and live music from That 80's Band. Fireworks start at 9:15 p.m.

When: July 4, 7-9:30 p.m.

Where: James J. Eagan Civic Center at Florissant Valley Park 

Jefferson Barracks

Gates open at 5 p.m., with a concert under the stars at Veterans Memorial Amphitheatre at 7 p.m., followed by fireworks. Several food trucks will also be present.

When: July 1 at dusk (about 9:15 p.m.)

Kirkwood

Food trucks start serving at 5 p.m., with live entertainment at 7 p.m. followed by a fireworks show.

When: July 4 at dark

Manchester

Enjoy food, drinks and live music with a free concert from Butchwax and the Hollywoods. The concert goes from 6-9 p.m.

When: July 4, 6-10 p.m.

Mascoutah

The event includes fun for the whole family, with a celebration starting at 4 p.m. Live music from Mister Bogus goes from 5-9 p.m.

When: July 4, 4-10 p.m., fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

O'Fallon, Illinois

The annual Fireworks Over O'Fallon returns with a fireworks show.

When: July 3 at dusk, approximately 8:30 p.m.

Where: O’Fallon Family Sports Park 

O'Fallon, Missouri

The four-day event boasts carnival food and rides, concerts, vendors, a parade and two nights of fireworks.

When: July 3 at 10:15 p.m. and July 4 at 9:30 p.m.

Sauget 

Enjoy post-game fireworks all weekend with the Gateway Grizzles after each game July 1-4.

Six Flags St. Louis - Eureka 

Celebrate the holiday at Six Flags July 4 Fest with rides, fireworks, and music all weekend.

The three-day celebration includes live music and carnival, food and craft vendors and culminates in a July 4 fireworks show over the river.

Viewing areas can be reserved day-of for fireworks at Memorial Field.

Wentzville

Everyone is invited to bring a chair to watch fireworks on July 4 at Progress Park. 

Prior to the fireworks show, there will be a parade that starts at 10 a.m. at the Wentzville Ice Arena and ends at the Wentzville Community Historical Society Museum. Residents and pass holders can also have a free swim on July 4 from noon-5 p.m. at Progress Park Pool.
