Choosing a New Set of Blinds is Exciting & Fun!

Window blinds are incredibly versatile and give you a huge amount of control over how much natural light to allow into a room. With a wide variety of styles to choose from, the right set of blinds can accent and highlight the look and chosen design / style of your home.

In all the excitement of choosing new window blinds, it’s easy to overlook this key factor: how easy are your blinds going to be to keep clean?

Naturally we want to keep our blinds looking as good as the day they were installed, but in reality it isn’t quite as easy as all that!  Most of us are time-poor: we simply don’t have spare hours to dedicate to cleaning blinds… However, a bit of forethought and research could save you a sea of trouble down the track.

Read below for our suggestions on easy-to-maintain / easiest to clean blinds & window treatments:

Vertical Blinds

Many people consider vertical blinds to be the #1 choice for ease of maintenance.  The vertical slats attract minimal dust, and a gentle clean with the vacuum cleaner or feather duster every now and again is usually all they need to keep them in tip-top condition.

They are definitely a contender in the running for easiest blinds to clean!

Roller Blinds

These “all-time favourite” blinds must be right up there near the top of the list when it comes to being the easiest to clean and ongoing maintenance.  Because they are a flat, vertical sheet of material they attract minimal dust and when it does come time for a clean it’s as easy as 1-2-3.

1) When the blind is in a fully lowered position, use your feather duster or vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment to remove dust and any other particles.  Depending on the material, 2) spot clean or simply wipe the entire surface of the blind with a warm, damp cloth.  3) Use a soft, clean cloth to dry the blind before rolling it up again.

Venetian Blinds

Venetian blinds have earned the reputation of being a bit tricky to clean.  However, whether you opt for timber or aluminium, it’s not as hard as it might seem.

A damp microfiber cloth, a bucket of warm water and mild soap solution and a bit of patience is all you need.

First, Vacuum the blind from both sides while it is in the closed position, then with the blind in the open position, work from the top to the bottom, gently wiping each slat.  This should be enough to remove any dust and grime that may have accumulated.  Regular maintenance of Venetian blinds is key!

A quick vacuum as part of your regular cleaning schedule will help to prevent any build-up of airborne dirt on the blades.

While Venetian Blinds may not be the easiest blinds to clean, they’re not impossible to keep in tip-top condition – they just require a bit more regular attention.

Panel Glide Blinds

These trendy and practical blinds are an excellent easy-care option for sliding doors or full-length windows.  A light dusting or vacuum will usually remove any dust that may have collected on the surface, and a warm, damp cloth can be used to spot clean the blinds where necessary.

Panel glide blinds are a great choice when trying to decide on the easiest blinds to clean.

What blinds dont collect dust?

The blinds that collect the least dust are blinds that hang vertically, rather than those comprised of one or many horizontal parts. This means that sheer/flat/one-piece fabrics that hang, such as roller blinds, day and night blinds, and vertical blinds, are best for not collecting dust in the first place.
