What year was the Samsung Galaxy Tab s released?

We’ve known for a while now that Samsung was preparing to introduce a new series of tablets with AMOLED displays. More recently we even saw leaked images giving us a better idea of what to expect. Now all the teasing and leaking is over and the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and 10.5 have been made official at Samsung’s Galaxy Premiere event.

Under the hood we find either an Exynos 5 Octa or a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU, depending on whether you end up with the Wi-Fi or LTE version. Both models contain 3GB RAM, a 8.4 or 10.5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560×1600,16GB or 32GB storage, microSD with support for 128GB expansion, an 8MP rear cam, 2.1MP front cam, and a 6.6mm thick profile.

As you can see, both the 8.4 and 10.5-inch models share a lot of the same specs, though there are some differences. For one thing, the 10.5-inch model has a 7900 mAh battery, as opposed to the 4900 mAh battery in the 8.4-inch model.

Moving beyond specs, Samsung’s AMOLED-touting tablets have an aesthetic that is similar to the Galaxy S5, which may be a disappointment for those that were hoping for the leather-stitching of devices like the Tab Pro series. On the plus side, there’s also the addition of a fingerprint reader, for added security and for cool features like Paypal fingerprint integration.

As for the software? The Samsung Galaxy Tab S runs similar software to the Galaxy Tab Pro series, with the addition of fingerprint reading capabilities and a few other unique new features like SideSync. The latter of these is a feature designed to let you control your phone from the tablet in a separate window.
