How it worksWhat is a Passion Play, you ask? Passion Plays give Heartbreakers a change to change up their pairings. To paraphrase Gwyneth Paltrow, pairs can “consciously couple” or “uncouple”. Who is truly looking for love, who is out for revenge, and who simply wants to pocket the cash? What really drives the decisions of Gen Z - love, money, lust, loyalty or ego? During challenges, couples will fight for top spot in a purpose-built Challenge Arena. Challenge winners are safe from elimination, but losing couples are automatically up for elimination and at risk of being sent home. There’s only one lifeline - The Playback, which gives contestants the chance to swap their partner out of the game in place of someone facing elimination. The hostPresiding over the couplings and combustions of Heartbreak Island is host Clinton Randell. Randell says the mix of Aussies, Kiwis, Brits and Americans on the island makes for a fascinating study. “The Brits aren’t afraid to call someone out, the Americans are loudly confident, the Kiwis are always stirring the pot, and the Aussies are chill, laid back but competitive and hate to lose,” he explains.
