Disney+ launched in the US & Canada on November 12, 2019, and in many other countries in early 2020.
The new streaming service offers thousands of viewing options which includes original content that is exclusive to Disney+. In addition, Disney+ offers some of the best library content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic.
Despite hours and hours worth of content to enjoy, there’s one show in particular that fans are craving to re-watch, “Bear in the Big Blue House.”
As it stands, “Bear in the Big Blue House” is not available on Disney+ in any country. As of writing, Disney hasn’t announced if or when the TV show might be added to the service.
Disney doesn’t typically share their plans on when a specific title will be added to the streaming service. New content is usually announced during the middle of the month for the following month. This gives us our best indication on what’s coming to Disney+ in the near future.
We think there’s a good chance that the show will be added to Disney+ at some point in the future with the real question being “when” and not ‘If”.
It’s also possible that Disney just hasn’t had an opportunity yet to rework the show for Disney+. The series is over 20 years old, technology has, of course, changed dramatically during that time and there are certain adjustments needed to be made for Disney+.
UPDATE 9/15/2022 – Disney has announced that Seasons 1-4 of “Bear in the Big Blue House” will release on Disney+ in the United States on Wednesday, October 19, 2022.
What is ‘Bear in the Big Blue House’ about?
“Bear in the Big Blue House” is an American children’s television series created by Mitchell Kriegman and produced by Jim Henson Television for Disney Channel’s Playhouse Disney preschool television block. Debuting on October 20, 1997, it aired its last episode on April 28, 2006. Reruns of the program continued to air until May 6, 2007
The show follows Bear, who lives in the Big Blue House where he is caregiver for his friends bear cub Ojo, mouse Tutter, lemur Treelo, otters Pip, Pop, and narrator Shadow. He and his friends have many adventures together. Those normally include solving problems, sharing, cooperating with each other, and developing social/life skills.
Each episode opens with the welcome song and appearance of the characters. Each show focuses on a theme (ex; “sleep”, “doctors”, “Thanksgiving”) which folds into a lesson at the end. Songs and jokes accompany the episode. The character “Shadow” narrates a segment with shadow puppets in each episode. Most of the segments are in song, while some are simply a short story relating to the episode’s theme. At the end of the program, Bear sings the goodbye song with Luna, the moon.
