The Texas creamery is celebrating National Ice Cream Month by releasing an exciting new flavor guaranteed to transport you straight back to childhood: Oatmeal Cream Pie.

Inspired by the beloved Little Debbie treat, Blue Bell's Oatmeal Cream Pie flavor features a delicious oatmeal flavored ice cream with hints of brown sugar mixed with soft oatmeal cookies and a vanilla icing swirl.

"We have taken all of the best parts of an oatmeal cream pie and combined it with our ice cream," Jimmy Lawhorn, vice president, sales and marketing for Blue Bell, said in a news release. "You immediately taste the sweetness of the brown sugar in the ice cream, but it is subtle. Once the vanilla icing swirl hits your taste buds, you know this is going to be good. The texture and taste of the soft oatmeal cookies tie it all together. It is just like eating a homemade oatmeal cream pie, but in ice cream form."

Oatmeal Cream Pie’s have long been a favorite sweet snack in Texas and now they are the latest flavor of ice cream from Blue Bell.

Blue Bell describes their newest ice cream flavor like this: “Oatmeal Cream Pie is a delicious oatmeal flavored ice cream with hints of brown sugar mixed with soft oatmeal cookies and a vanilla icing swirl.”

That’s not the only new flavor the legendary Texas brand is releasing this National Ice Cream month. They also released the flavor Strawberry Lemonade Sherbert a few days ago calling it “the official ice cream of summer”. Strawberry Lemonade Sherbert is part strawberry ice cream swirled with part lemonade sherbert, it was the idea of 13-year old Madelyn Dodd from Midloathian, TX

According to Rick Mauch of Focus Daily News the soon to be 8th grader had the idea for the ice cream flavor during lunch at school and sent it to Blue Bell through her school teacher as part of a writing assignment.

The company’s CEO, Ricky Dickson, loved the idea so much he wrote her a letter in response promising to release the new flavor.

Strawberry Lemonade Sherbert is available for a limited time only.

The company calls its new creation “a delicious oatmeal flavored ice cream with hints of brown sugar mixed with soft oatmeal cookies and a vanilla icing swirl.”

Also new from Blue Bell this summer is Strawberry Lemonade Ice Cream. It features strawberry ice cream swirled with a refreshing lemonade sherbet sprinkled with lemon-flavored flakes. Strawberry Lemonade is sold in half-gallon and pint sizes, but only for a limited time.

The International Dairy Foods Association says the average American eats roughly 20 pounds of ice cream each year, or about four gallons.

President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day in 1984.
