this movie deserves more recognition

I loved it and saw it a few times. I wished they didn't try so hard to be funny sometimes. It is like adding MORE flavour and MORE salt and pepper to an already delicious meal.

Obnoxiously Funny

The concept is comical. Dan Fogler, Christopher Walken, and George Lopez steal every scene. This movie makes me laugh every time I watch it.

Ridiculous comedy based upon tragedy of a ping pong player

Verified purchase

Balls of Fury was a comedy about ping pong. Yes, ping pong.

The movie was based upon the tragedy of Randy Daytona (Dan Fogler) who was a child prodigy ping pong player. In 1988 he participated in the Summer Olympics where he lost his match and his father (Robert Patrick) lost his life due to gambling the mysterious Mr. Feng (Christopher Walken). That put Daytona on the slow track to nowhere. When he was grown up he was reduced to performing at a buffet in Reno, Nevada. That was until FBI Agent Ernie Rodriguez (George Lopez) tells him he’s needed for a secret mission to enter Feng’s high stakes ping pong tournament. To get him ready Daytona trains under Master Wong (James Hong) and his niece Maggie (Maggie Q).

If that’s not ridiculous enough the non-stop jokes are. For instance, while performing in Reno Randy starts bouncing ping pong balls off a man’s forehead and he keels over and dies. Agent Rodriguez thought it was part of the act and laughed until the paramedics showed up. Later, Daytona has to play underground ping pong to get Feng’s attention. He takes on the master of Chinatown called The Dragon. She turns out to be a pre-teen girl who cries when Daytona wins a point, and then punches him in the nuts and runs off. Christopher Waken as Feng just takes it to another level. It’s this kind of low brow, slapstick humor that is throughout the movie.

Do you like Seth Rogan and the ridiculous but great movies he is in? This movie doesn't have him but you will enjoy it. It's dumb it's great. You won't regret it. Not kid friendly.

It's "Dodgeball" meets "The Karate Kid", and it's hilarious!

This is one of the funniest movies I've seen, but the style of humor will not apply to everyone. If you like dumb comedy (think 'Dodgeball', 'Benchwarmers', etc.), you'll probably like this one too.

Randy Daytona (Dan Fogler) was the world's greatest up-and-coming ping-pong champion when he was a teenager, but became distracted at the '88 Olympic Games and lost his chance at reaching the top. Not only does he make a fool of himself on international television, but he also loses his dad - a compulsive gambler who bet some very shady people that Randy would win. Twenty years later, the washed-up Randy is found in Las Vegas and recruited by the FBI to infiltrate the "Mortal Kombat" style ping-pong tournament being held by criminal mastermind Feng (Christopher Walken). Taken to ping-pong master Wong (James Hong), Daytona is given a crash course in the "underground" style of playing ping-pong, where he also meets Wong's beautiful yet feisty niece Maggie (Maggie Q).
