Which came first super saiyan or super sonic

I was bored so I tried a little DBZ and Sonic study.

A lot of people beleive that Super Sonic was a ripoff from the 'Super Saiyan' from DragonBall Z.

Super Sonic's first arrival was in 'Sonic the Hedgehog 2' on November 21, 1992.

While the Manga release of Dragonball Z: "The Legendary Super Saiyan", was released in 1991.

So, the thought that Super Sonic WAS a Ripoff is supposedly clear.

However.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was handed to the 'Sega Technical Institute' in the United States. Not in Japan where the first was created. The entire team had to keep communications between the two countries, inevitably slowing down a bit of production. So, Super Sonic had to be planned before November.

Super Saiyan had to be planned out before the release date, and the mentioning of the Super Saiyan was released before the Freiza Saga.

In short, Super Sonic and Super Saiyan may share the word 'Super' and may have the same color change (Except eyes)... But in my opinion, it has became coincidence of the similarities.

I have a feeling I am going to get swamped with complaints otherwise.

Anyone know? Which one is a rip off?

Super Sonic first showed up in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which was released in 1992, while Super Saiyans were introduced in the Dragon Ball manga in 1990.

Super Sonic was a homage to the Super Saiyans, I believe.

Naoto Oshima got some of his ideas from DBZ. Super Sonic is a definite reference.

Super Sonic is a nod to DBZ

This is like asking if the Death Egg came before the Death Star

Which came first super saiyan or super sonic

Okay basically I know a lot of Sonic fans and the simple fact that Sonic ripped off SSJ made me stop liking Sonic all together. But there are some people that tell me DBZ came after the Super Sonic transformation and that there are no similarities between Super Sonic and SSJ. Some say it's okay, things are inspired by other things all of the time, but it wasn't like an inspiration, it's like a blatant oh let's do EXACTLY what they did with DBZ. Golden hair, increase in speed and power, and the hair stands on end along with a golden aura. Naruto and Bleach were inspired by DBZ but I don't see Super Ninja and all this. I dunno, this is more like a rant than anything else. I just can't stand it that it was such a rip-off and some think it's the other way around...

It's very evident that Sonic is influenced by Dragon Ball. Mainly; the 7 chaos emeralds that everyone is always looking to collect. However, did they influence each other? My friend is saying that the "golden" Super form of Sonic was debuted in the early 90s (92 or before). Was the SSJ already introduced when this happened, or did Dragonball choose to take something from Sonic's book to get even?

I believe it was DBZ first--the Dragonball series debuted in the...late 1980s I believe, maybe a bit earlier.

The creator of Sonic the Hedgehog has admitted to being a Dragonball fan, and that Super Sonic was is indeed a parody of a Super Saiyan. The seven Chaos Emeralds are also his tribute to the dragonballs.

Super Saiyan came before Super Sonic. Super Sonic is pretty much based off Super Saiyan. HOWEVER, Super Saiyan isn't actually "original," seeing as Toriyama used another old folk-tale in terms of a "Gold Warrior" similar to the Super Saiyan form..only a few differences here and there. >_>

you know any link to this "Gold Warrior" series? I'like to read about it and who created it.

^ I don't think that's a series, TSC. XD It is a folktale, after all.

To be exact Sonic The Hedgehog 2 which was the first game with Super Sonic in for the Megsdrive/Genesis was released in 21/11/92 but i'm not sure about Super Saiyan, I'm guessing it was before that though.

Anywho, yes, Super Saiyan did come before Super Sonic. Son Goku's Super Saiyan transformation appeared in the Dragon Ball manga in Japan around 1990/1991. The anime version of the chapter occured in Dragon Ball Z episode 95, which aired on June 12, 1991 in Japan.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which featured the debut of Super Sonic, was first released in Japan on November 21, 1992, which was then followed with a US release only a few days later (November 24, 1992).

So there you have it. Super Sonic was created a whole year later.

Interesting. I wouldn't have guessed it, but I never got into DBZ.

...Wow, you must not be into the Sonic video game series. Super Sonic first appears on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis game called Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Sonic X is an anime series based off the video game franchise.

I have always wondered about this, well, not until someone mentioned it a couple of years ago to me. But, it is interesting to see how a manga series like Dragonball can influence a game like Sonic. I mean, they are so different.

TSC: I'm wondering just as much as you. Of course, the name of the folktale might help. Do you know, EE? :<

Kez: I heard that the Sonic Team wanted to make a reference to both the East and West (East ebing Japan, and West being Europe and America). For the east, they made Super Sonic (reference to Super Saiyan from Dragon Ball); for the west, they made the Death Egg (reference to the Death Star from Star Wars). I'm not sure about the Chaos Emeralds being a reference to the seven dragonballs because there was Chaos Emeralds in the first game. Of course, there was only six original Chaos Emeralds in Sonic 1. :\ Though the Emeralds have changed in number and color over the years, in each game.

Believe it or not, Dragon Ball had a BIG influence on a lot of things in both the East and the West.

Way to bump a 5 year old thread.

Is Super Sonic stronger than Super Saiyan?

Visually, Super Sonic is often compared to Super Saiyans from Dragon Ball Z. However, when analyzing how their powers compare, Super Sonic is far more powerful than the Saiyans. The Super Saiyan form is unlocked when Saiyans unlock their hidden potential, often through moments of great emotional stress.

Is Super Sonic inspired by DBZ?

The grand total of Sonic elements that have been directly confirmed by Sega developers to have been directly inspired by/derived from Dragon Ball are: Super Sonic, Silver, and the Blue Sphere mini-game being based on Kaio's planet.

When was Super Sonic introduced?

The first aircraft to fly at supersonic speeds was a Bell X-1 rocket-powered research plane piloted by Major Charles E. Yeager of the U.S. Air Force on October 14, 1947.
