You can play ether first it really makes no difference as they are not story related in any way just a few references here and there.

It isn´t really important, which one you play first, but it makes sense to play the first one first because in Ni No Kuni 2 are some references to it. But nothing big.
I prefer the DS version instead, because combat system is purely turn based.
Either way is fine since they are pretty different from one another. Though I would recommend you play this game first if you find differences in graphics jarring.
They are totally different games.
NNK1 has a better story (Studio Chibli), different combat system (more time to think), "pokemon" catching and battling.
NNK2 has more action focused combat and mini-games (RTS and city building).
In my opinion NNK2 combat is worse but I hate action combat anyway. NNK2 mini games are also not worth of it. RTS is really bad and boring and while city building seems fun it is actually totally useless at least in normal mode. Sadly hard mode was not available when I was playing NNK2 so maybe city building has more uses in hard mode.

I don't even watch anime and that hurts physically.

If you are into animation or really great stories, then you really should check out stuff by Studio Ghibli, I prefer the sub but the dub is not bad (as there are very few I enjoy dub).
Yes the first one is ten times better than the second one.
