Who does the singing on Yellowstone?

WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Waco native singer and songwriter Wade Bowen says it was a dream come true to hear his song played on the season four finale of Paramount Network’s hit television series Yellowstone, which broke records with 9.3 million viewers Sunday night.

“To watch it the other night was an absolute blast, one of those dreams come true,” Bowen told KWTX. “I have not had a whole lot of music in TV yet, so knock on wood, maybe this is the first of many.”

Bowen’s song ‘Beat Me Down’ from his album titled ‘The Given’ was played about 30 minutes into the episode for around two minutes during a roping scene at the Dutton Ranch.

The 1996 Reicher High School graduate says he’s known about the song being part of the finale for months but couldn’t share the news.

“To get that call, we had to wait four to five months I think when we got the news to keep it a secret,” Bowen said. “To get that call was huge for us.”

Bowen adds being part of Yellowstone was extra special for him because he and his family are huge fans.

“My family and I, we love Yellowstone.” Bowen said. “So, to actually have a song and for them to call and say we’re in the season finale of season 4 is just huge for us. We love the show and to be a part of it was so much fun.”

The wildly popular series, which revolves around a family that owns the largest contagious ranch in the Unites States was created and directed by Taylor Sheridan, a relative of McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara, who grew up in Bosque County and Fort Worth.

Sheridan is known for putting nods to Central Texas in his episodes.

Yellowstone features trailers from Bloomer Trailers in Salado.

The owner, Randy Bloomer, has also made cameos in the series.

Yellowstone is going (even more) country!

Deadline reports that singer Lainey Wilson is set to join the cast of Taylor Sheridan's hit series as a musician named Abby.

The country star celebrated the news on Instagram, sharing a photo of herself on set in Montana with the iconic Dutton Ranch in the background.

"See y'all on season 5 of Yellowstone," Wilson captioned the post.

Wilson, a native of Baskin, Louisiana, took home two ACM Awards in 2021: New Female Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for her chart-topping single, "Things a Man Oughta Know."

Also joining the cast for the upcoming season is American Horror Story's Kai Caster, who will play a cowboy named Rowdy. Deadline also confirmed that Josh Lucas will, in fact, be returning as a young John Dutton.

Yellowstone season five is set to premiere on Paramount Network on November 13. It will be an extra-long season of 14 episodes, airing in two, seven-episode sections.

The 4th season of the Paramount Network’s popular Western series Yellowstone commenced on November 7th after being moved from a summer fill-in series to a winter feature due to the show’s excellent ratings. And along with entertaining viewers, it once again promises to use its platform to help promote many of the independent country artists we all love, but that radio and popular culture rarely give an opportunity to.

The 2-part season premier featured Hailey Whitters, Colter Wall in the ending scene, and Blackberry Smoke in the 2nd part, with a flashback (or forward?) to Tim McGraw who stars in the prequel 1883, which will premier on December 19th with Sam Elliott and Faith Hill.

The Music Supervisor for the show is Andrea von Foerster, and speaking recently to Music Row she said, “We have such a solid fan base that really loves the music. I always want to keep introducing everyone to new artists or local artists that they know and love. We certainly don’t overlook major label artists, we love Chris Stapleton like no other, but it’s nice to give a leg up to the up-and-coming folks.”

The benefit of an appearance on Yellowstone for an artist or band is not just hypothetical. When Whiskey Myers not only had some songs featured during Season 1, but also made a personal appearance during a scene itself, it shot up their sales. Blackberry Smoke saw eight songs placed through Season 2 of the series alone, and the show also helped set up Zach Bryan with producer Dave Cobb.

Other artists featured on the series so far include Tyler Childers, Jason Isbell, Whitey Morgan and the 78’s, The Trishas, Lainey Wilson, The Steel Woods, Turnpike Troubadours, and many more. Americana artist Ryan Bingham also plays a recurring role in the series as a ranch hand named Walker who also sings and plays guitar upon occasion.

Yellowstone centers around conflicts that arise between the shared borders of a large cattle ranch, an Indian reservation, land developers, and the National Park. It was created by Taylor Sheridan who is originally from Texas, and made a name developing Sons of Anarchy, as well as the movie Hell or High Water, both of which featured lots of independent and classic country music as well.

As the season plays out, we’ll help keep tabs of the artists and songs featured below.
