Carpenter shot the film with a low budget, meaning he had to cut a few corners to bring Haddonfield, Illinois, to life. Wardrobe and props were made from everyday items - including Myers' famous mask, which was a re-purposed rubber mask of Captain Kirk from Star Trek - while real-life houses, schools and neighbourhoods were used as sets.

This includes the old Myers home, a two-storey Victorian property with a porch and wooden-clad exterior - a property that is still standing today.
