Why does Fall Guys say connection error?

One of the issues that prevents players from joining a game is a pop-up that reads “Connection error- Connection to the server timed out, please check the settings and try again.” This one usually appears just prior to joining a match.

While the error tells players to check their settings, it doesn’t offer any advice regarding which setting it refers to. Regardless of what it says, this error is caused by overloaded servers, which are exacerbated by popular in-game events or a free-to-play/new platform launch. Unfortunately, there’s nothing you can do if Fall Guys’ servers are down since most server-related issues can’t be addressed on your end. However, you can proceed to the next solution below if there are no reported issues on the servers.

2. Check Your Network Connection. 

Since Fall Guys’ servers slow down when there are many players online, it would help if your network is running optimally. This allows you to maintain a stable connection with Fall Guys’ servers and lessen the occurrence of connection errors. 

To check if your network is running correctly, run a test using Fast.com to measure its current speed. 

Restart your modem if the test indicates that the issue is with your network to re-establish the connection with your service provider. Unplug your router from the wall outlet and wait for 5 to 10 seconds before reconnecting it.

3. Now, right-click on your network and access Properties. 
4. Inside Properties, double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4). 
5. Next, enable the ‘Use the Following DNS’ option and input the following: 

• Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8
• Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4

1. Finally, save the changes and restart your computer. 

Play a few matches afterward to check if you would still encounter the connection error on Fall Guys.

6. Close Unnecessary Programs. 

When Fall Guys’ servers are not working correctly, you’d want to have all your bandwidth dedicated to the game. In this case, we recommend closing unused programs on your computer to avoid unnecessary bandwidth consumption.

1. Press the CTRL + ALT + DEL keys on your keyboard and click on Task Manager.
