Blue Lock, a football manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura, is finally getting a print release with English translation in 2022 thanks to Kodansha! It is added to an already strong list of new manga that's releasing in 2022. Blue Lock is already one of my favorite sports manga and I highly recommend checking it out whether you are a fan of soccer or not. It's thrilling, has a unique premise, and a great cast of characters.

It was also confirmed that Blue Lock is getting an anime adaptation in 2022 with animation by 8-Bit, who animated That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc and and more, so it's a big year for the series!

Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura are amazing creators. While Blue Lock is definitely their most popular release to date, they've created a number of other incredible series. Muneyuki Kaneshiro, who writes the story for Blue Lock, is also the writer behind one of my all-time favorite manga Jagaaaaaan, Bokutachi ga Yarimashita, Kamisama no Iutoori, Billion Dogs, and more. Yusuke Nomura, the artist of Blue Lock, is also the artist of Dolly Kill Kill. I would love to see more of their works get published with English translation as well!

With that all said, here is everything we know about the Blue Lock manga so far!

What is Blue Lock about?

In terms of story, Blue Lock follows main character and high schooler Yoichi Isagi as he works to navigate his way through an experimental football program called Blue Lock that’s designed to create a striker that will lead Japan to win their first-ever World Cup.

It is almost like a battle royale of football players, where the last man standing gets to become the top striker of Japan. To do so though, these candidates will have to beat out 300 other candidates not just in terms of their skill, but also their ego. It is a really cool premise and the challenges that pop up along the way for our characters are uniquely designed and keep you on the edge of your seat.

Blue Lock Release Date and Details

According to Barnes and Noble's listing, the Blue Lock manga is releasing in Kodansha's larger sized manga format (W5.75 x H8.19in) as seen with other manga such as Gleipnir, Inuyashiki and Witch Hat Atelier. The volumes are retailing for $12.99 USD.

Blue Lock Volume 1, who's cover features Yoichi Isagi, is releasing on June 21, 2022 and Blue Lock Volume 2, who's cover features Meguru Bachira, is releasing on August 23, 2022.

The anime adaptation, which is also coming out in 2022, is releasing at a TBD date. You can check out the first two covers and find out where to preorder the volumes below!

Exclusive: Blue Lock Soccer Manga Gets Print Releases in English

posted on 2022-01-07 05:00 AEDT by Alex Mateo

1st volume launches this summer

Will Blue Lock get an English release?
Kodansha Comics announced on Thursday that it will release print versions of Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yūsuke Nomura's Blue Lock soccer manga in English starting with the first volume this summer.

Kodansha Comics is publishing the manga in English digitally, and it describes the story:

After a disastrous defeat at the 2018 World Cup, Japan's team struggles to regroup. But what's missing? An absolute Ace Striker, who can guide them to the win. The Japan Football Union is hell-bent on creating a striker who hungers for goals and thirsts for victory, and who can be the decisive instrument in turning around a losing match...and to do so, they've gathered 300 of Japan's best and brightest youth players. Who will emerge to lead the team...and will they be able to out-muscle and out-ego everyone who stands in their way?

Kaneshiro and Nomura launched the manga in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in August 2018. Kodansha published the manga's 17th compiled nook volume on December 17. The volumes have over 4.5 million copies printed. The manga won the Best Shōnen Manga award in Kodansha's 45th annual Manga Awards last year.

The manga is inspiring a television anime that will premiere in 2022.
