Will there be a third South Park Post Covid?

Kyle, Stan, Kenny, and Cartman navigate life after the pandemic in “South Park: Post Covid,” streaming now on Paramount+.

We see some of the boys as adults in the animated special.

“You remember when we were little as friends, we said we’d always be there for each other when things got bad?” Kyle says in a teaser.

“What do you mean? What happened?” Stan replies.

“South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone executive produced the holiday special. The Emmy-winning series debuted in 1997.

Next year marks the 25th anniversary of “South Park.” Audiences can expect to see new episodes until at least 2027, due to MTV Entertainment Studios’ expansive deal with Parker and Stone.

Paramount+ has set a premiere date for South Park: Post Covid: Covid Returns, the second of 14 original television movies from series co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

Set to premiere on Thursday, Dec. 16, South Park: Post Covid: Covid Returns follows the Thanksgiving movie event South Park: Post Covid.

Paramount+’s description is as follows: “If Stan, Kyle and Cartman could just work together, they could go back in time to make sure Covid never happened and save Kenny’s life. In South Park: Post Covid: Covid Returns, traveling back to the past seems to be the easy answer until they meet Victor Chaos.”

The two 2021 television movie events are among the 14 original movies to come out of Parker and Stones’ major deal with Viacom CBS, which they inked in August. The duo is set to create two original South Park films every year through 2027. The deal also saw the renewal of South Park on Comedy Central through 2027.

In addition to the Post Covid movies, South Park released other pandemic-related titles including 2020’s South Park: Pandemic Special and The South ParQ Vaccination Special.

Parker, Stone, Anne Garefino and Frank C. Agnone II are the Executive Producers of South Park. Eric Stough, Adrien Beard, Bruce Howell and Vernon Chatman are Producers. Chris Brion is the Creative Director of South Park Digital Studios.

South Park‘s next hour-long special officially has a release date, as Deadline is reporting South Park: Post Covid: Covid Returns will premiere on December 16.

“If Stan, Kyle, and Cartman could just work together, they could go back in time to make sure Covid never happened and save Kenny’s life,” reads the official synopsis for the upcoming television movie. “In South Park: Post Covid: Covid Returns, traveling back to the past seems to be the easy answer until they meet Victor Chaos.”

The two South Park specials are part of the massive, 14 movie deal that South Park co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone agreed to with Viacom CBS earlier this year. The deal will see Parker and Stone release two original South Park films every year through 2027. Prior to the two most recent films, South Park also releases two specials in 2020, the South Park: Pandemic Special, and The South ParQ Vaccination Special.

South Park has been a TV staple since 1997 and it even got a movie in 1999, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut. Now, South Park fans will be treated to something brand new: South Park: Post COVID, a special that will be released exclusively on streaming.

South Park was created by Matt Stone and Trey Parker. The animated comedy follows Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny and the rest of their grade-school friends and families as they get into all kinds of irreverent adventures in their quiet, dysfunctional Colorado town. In terms of longevity, South Park only trails The Simpsons for animated TV shows.

But even after all that time, we think the show is going to go places that it has rarely (if ever) tread before — we’re going to see the main quartet as adults.
