Will it be the Bay Area or the Trey Area come Week 1? Show The 49ers enter the 2022 season with largely the same roster when they made the NFC Championship Game in 2021. Their biggest question remains: Who will be throwing the football in Week 1? With Jimmy Garoppolo still on the roster and 2021 first-round pick Trey Lance presumably ready to take over, the 49ers still have one major hurdle to clear entering the season. With landing spots all but dried up for Garoppolo, the team may be forced to either bench him or cut him before the start of the year. Having two viable starting options is still a good problem to have. San Francisco brass still has "problemz" though — potentially 19 of them. The 49ers seemingly navigated the drama surrounding wide receiver Deebo Samuel this offseason, with All-Pro reportedly wanting out of the Bay Area and wanting a new contract (or both), but with the 2022 NFL Draft come and gone, Samuel remains a 49er. Even with the unsettled in-house business, the Niners should still be a safe bet to be playing meaningful games and December, and potentially well beyond that. It won't be too easy, though, with their schedule one of the more difficult ones in the NFL this year. The 49ers are scheduled to face the following opponents in their 2022 schedule:
The 49ers are coming off a wishy-washy season where they got hot at the right time, with their running game and defense carrying them all the way to the NFC Championship game. 49ers strength of scheduleThe 49ers enter the 2022 season with one of the league's most difficult schedules, with a .533 opponent winning percentage from 2021. That leaves them tied for fifth-toughest in the NFL, alongside the Chiefs. The NFC West might not be as daunting a task as it has been in years past, with the Seahawks in a state of flux and the Cardinals something of an unknown after a hot start to the 2021 season. The Rams, though, remain the cream of the crop in the division and are coming off a Super Bowl win. Toughest tests: The NFC West is always, always a tough proposition: The division had three playoff teams last season (including San Francisco) and also has the defending Super Bowl champs. While Seattle might take a step or two back without Russell Wilson this upcoming season, four games against the rest could make for tough sledding. Biggest breaks: The 49ers' road slate is going to be pretty easy: They face just one team that made the playoffs in 2021 on the road (the Raiders). They do, though, face a remade Broncos squad featuring old frenemy Russell Wilson. Bottom line: Depending on how the 49ers' quarterback situation works out, they could be a boom or bust team. Don't bet against Kyle Shanahan, who manages to get the most out of his team every year — when they're healthy. Record prediction: 12-5 The 49ers 2022 NFL schedule itself won’t be known for some time, but we do know the opponents they’ll face off against next season. The San Francisco 49ers are still wrapping up their 2021 NFL schedule with one more game left in regular-season action and, hopefully, a trip deep into the playoffs. And while fans are almost entirely focused on how the Niners do to wrap up the current season, it never hurts to look ahead and see what’s on tap for head coach Kyle Shanahan and Co. a little less than a year from now. Currently, we still have no clue how San Francisco’s 2022 regular-season schedule will shape up, what prime-time games the team will receive and what kind of road trips are in store. The official 2022 NFL schedule won’t be released until likely May of this year, so that’ll create some anticipation. But there is a report out there, paired with some pre-existing knowledge, of which teams the 49ers will play next season. The San Francisco Chronicle’s Eric Branch recently reported and broke down the list of opponents the Niners will face off against in 2022. 49ers home opponents

After traveling for the first-year 17th game in 2021, San Francisco will stay at home this year in an at-large inter-conference contest against the Dolphins. The 49ers, as with the rest of the NFC West, will also face off against the AFC West and NFC South next season with other 2021 third-place at-large games against the Bears and Washington. But the bigger interest might be seeing Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady coming back to his hometown Bay Area, while the possibility of the Niners facing off against quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in another uniform, assuming he joins one of those quarterback-needy teams on San Francisco’s 2022 NFL schedule. Fans will probably be hoping for a bit of a grudge match versus quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, too, in a regular-season setting.
