Who is the traitor Valhalla Lork

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has various story consequences and it’s the outcome of your choices.

One such choice you have to make is to identify the actual traitor in the quest Old Wounds.

The traitor to Rollo can either be Gerhild or Lork. Read on to find out who the real traitor is in AC Valhalla.

How to determine the traitor

To identify the traitor, you’re given various clues. One of them is by interviewing / interrogating both Gerhild and Lork.

Both of them have a motive to betray Rollo. Lork has a blood oath to Rollo’s father and the oath is only gone when Rollo dies. However, Lork doesn’t seem to be the type to kill just to get rid of a blood oath.

Gerhild on the other hand has ambition and may want to take over control of the group.

When you talk to the both of them, Gerhild’s reasoning doesn’t make sense as she can barely hunt (according to Rollo). Furthermore, there were already plenty of food in camp.

Apart from talking to them, you can also walk around the camp. Use Odin’s sight and you’ll see clues that point towards Gerhild.

Who is the traitor?

You have to choose properly as the one who gets chosen will be executed by Rollo.

The actual traitor is Gerhild.

If you failed to choose Gerhild, she will betray again later in the story. Estrid will get harmed because of Gerhild.

If you chose Gerhild, the soldiers will still make an ambush later and Lork will get shot by a few arrows when protecting Estrid. I’m not sure about this but it may also affect Rollo’s decision to join you later as a Jomsviking.

There's a traitor afoot in the Essexe arc of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and it's up to you to work out who it is. Rollo will take you to his camp where two suspects are waiting. The traitor is either Gerhild or Lork, and there's very little evidence to go on. To make sure you pick the right person we've named the traitor below. We'll explain how we worked it out, and what happens if you pick the wrong traitor as part of the Old Wounds quest.

In this Assassin's Creed Valhalla guide:

AC Valhalla: who is Rollo's traitor in the Essexe Old Wounds quest

The traitor who betrayed Rollo in the Essexe Old Wounds quest is Gerhild. You are given two options, Lork or Gerhild, and it's clear from the available evidence that she is the one lying about her alibi. We'll explain why later on in this guide.

Talking to the suspects

The first thing to do to find the traitor is to speak to the suspects. Both claim that they were out hunting rabbits for Rollo's return, and Lork says he saw Gerhild speaking with a Saxon. With this new info you can examine the nearby game rack. It's full, meaning the two would have no need to go hunting.

There's another piece of evidence to check before making your decision, the hiding spot to the left of Gerhild. Use your Odin's Sight ability to find it. Now, speak to the two suspects again. Lork will reveal that he wasn't hunting, he was sleeping in the woods and then hid when the attack happened. Gerhild says she was meeting a lover, the Saxon that Lork spotted. With all of this evidence it's time to make a decision.

Accusing the traitor

Given that we know that Gerhild hates Rollo for seeing Estrid, her having a Saxon lover seems unlikely. She also lies about hunting, and has no alibi for why she was left alive during the attack. Lork has a blood oath to Rollo, which Danes take pretty seriously. It is also mentioned that he is getting old and frail, which would explain the sleeping and hiding. It's time to speak to Rollo and accuse Gerhild. She will be killed.

What happens if you make the wrong choice?

If you pick the wrong traitor, Gerhild will harm Estrid later on in the story. The traitor will still be alive, so you'll basically have a harder time getting Estrid out of England.

So there you have it, Gerhild is Rollo's traitor in the Old Wounds quest. For more on AC: Valhalla be sure to visit our walkthrough. There's also our look at collecting all of the Ymir's Blood Stones in Jotunheim.

As Eivor continues to forge alliances around England in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, they travel southeast to play matchmaker in Essexe. But as their cunning plan comes together, another traitor threatens to scupper the whole ruse.

To take Ealdorman Birstan’s estranged wife Estrid back to her homeland of Francia, the Wolf-Kissed enlists the help of a Dane captain, Rollo. But after whisking him out from under the nose of the King of Wessex, you return to his camp to find it in ruin.

The survivors have narrowed the betrayer down to two: Gerhild, Rollo’s shield-sister, and Lork, a supposedly-faithful warrior pledged to Rollo’s father.

Either Gerhild or Lork is the Essexe traitor, but Eivor will have to gather evidence to work out who.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla - Is Gerhild or Lork the Essexe traitor?

To establish who the traitor is, you first need to speak to both Gerhild and Lork to get their side of the story.

Ask after Gerhild’s location at the time of the Saxon attack, and she’ll say she was out hunting rabbits.

Next ask Lork, and he’ll say he was hunting rabbits as well. However, he’ll also say that he saw Gerhild talking to a saxon, implying her guilt. When Eivor remains skeptical of his story, he’ll make allusions to his loyalty to Rollo and his father, but lets slip that he’s tired of the fighting life and of his oath to Rollo’s family.

With that testimony in mind, now it’s time to search the camp.

Use your Odin’s Sight and survey the area. You’ll see a game rack up by the fire, and a flattened patch in the bushes.

Inspect the game rack and you’ll observe that there’s plenty of food left. Both Gerhild and Lork are lying about their whereabouts.

Now go over and search the bushes. You’ll see that someone hid there during the attack.

Armed with some new facts, it’s time to speak to the accused again.

Tell Gerhild that you know she was lying, and that Lork says that she’s the traitor. She’ll reply that she was out at a romantic encounter with a Saxon local.

Then tell Lork that you know he was lying. He’ll tell you that he was slacking off, asleep in the forest when he was woken by the attack. He says that he hid in the bushes - corroborating the flattened patch you found.

Now speak to Rollo to collate your information. He quickly agrees that Gerhild was lying about hunting, because she’s always been a poor archer. He also casts doubt on her story about meeting a Saxon, saying she’s always held disdain for them.

Discuss Lork’s possible betrayal, and Rollo will be surprised. He agrees that Lork grows weary of the Vikingr life, but says that he would have released him if he’d only asked.

Based on the evidence you’ve collected, the Essexe traitor is Gerhild.

You know this because both warriors lied about their whereabouts, but Lork is the only one you can pin down.

Based on your search of the camp, you know that he hid in the bushes after slinking off for a nap. But the only way Gerhild could have been around the camp for him to see and not caught up in the attack is if she was in cahoots with the Saxons.
