For some, Memorial Day kicks off the season to officially wear white clothes and shoes.
If you’re a person who defies traditional fashion rules and Hollywood actress LisaRaye McCoy, wearing white is a year-round thing.
When AlwaysAList.com editor Jawn Murray interviewed LisaRaye back in 2010, she said that her affinity for white wasn’t something contrived, but instead a concept she stumbled upon.
“It’s not a method to the madness. It’s not because it’s religion. It’s because one day on the weekend I went out of town and realized I had all white outfits and they looked so crisp and clean. I said can I do this for a week, a month, a year? It’s been eight or nine years now. I feel like an angel,” the actress said then.

But now, six years later, the Chicago native recently had a greater revelation about her singular color code while talking with ABC Radio Networks Entertainment Producer Karu F. Daniels.
“I had a revelation,” she told Daniels, as tears streamed down her face. “It was like, oh, I remember, when my father passed, my mother was very adamant wearing a black outfit and she was very adamant about me going with her to pick this black outfit and I didn’t want to. I think I had completely shut down at that time anyway. And I was like, ‘I wonder if that has everything to do with why I went totally to the right and I wear nothing but white now.'”

LisaRaye’s father, the late David Ray McCoy, was a prominent Chicago millionaire. An entrepreneur who owned several hotels and nightclubs, he was murdered by his girlfriend and her brother, who shot David Ray in the back seat of his Cadillac on November 12, 1988.

Now, the former First Lady of Turks & Caicos—she was married Michael Misick, the first Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands—said there are days when she thinks about adding other colors to her wardrobe.
“Sometime I might say, “I really want to come out of white because what’s the problem, like what is it?’ and I have to think ‘Why is it that you’re saying you want to come out of white? Is it because you hear somebody say ‘How long are you going to wear white’ or ‘It’s boring girl’ and then I have to say ‘Yeah, that’s what you think’. So I have gotten into a habit of buying one or two pieces a year where I think I’m going to wear this color and it’s still in my closet,” she shared.
The 48-year-old actress, who previously starred on VH1’s “Single Ladies” and the UPN sitcom “All of Us,” can be seen next playing famed music executive Sylvia Rhone in the biopic of R&B star Miki Howard. The movie, “Love Under New Management – The Miki Howard Story” premieres on TV One on June 12.
