Not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but... 4 days ago the car was filled up (not by me) and didn't realize 'til today at the car wash there was overspill on the car. The car washer guy told me I should be careful (but it wasn't me) not to let the "gas" sit on the car like that. So can diesel eat thru paint or something? ------------------

Jenni: If diesel is allowed to stay on the paint for a long time, there might be noticeable damage, but wiping it off ASAP will eliminate any potential problems. I still spill a drop of two a few times each year and simply wipe it off the best I can with a paper towel and then use the windshield squeege to rinse the affected area. ------------------

No harm if you spill some on the side of your car while you fill. 1998 Jetta TDI Custom Sport
What about when the gas jockey spills diesel all over the side of your car, AND all over the tire (I had a bad experience at a cheapo gas station in the middle of Saskatchewan involving diesel all over the side of the car. The attendent then further aggravated me by grabbing a filthy window squeegee and proceeded to scratch my paint in a vain attempt to remove the diesel).
Diesel attacks many rubbers, but will it affect the tire rubber if left on for a day or two?
Have driven diesels for many miles, at least on my cars the diesel will build up and will look unslightly, but a wash and wax will return the original finish.
Never had diesel harm paint on my cars.
It's not as bad as gasoline, which itself isn't too bad as long as you wash it off. No big deal.

Thanks guys.
We use diesel fuel, followed by a good washing, to remove road oil. I also use diesel fuel to wash bike parts prior to re-lubing.

All well and good, but bug & tar remover also strips off wax. You will have to re-wax at least that area on which you used the bug & tar remover.
Fear not, cars wanted. Rewaxing follows shortly.
