How to respond to you can come if you want

Recently, I came across a video on Twitter that accurately explained how irritating and confusing it is when someone responds with the ever-popular "if you want to."

In the video, a boy was doing a parody of a 911 call where the dispatcher asked him if he needed an ambulance, and he responded with "you can if you want to," which left the dispatcher confused as to what actions to take.

Obviously this video was fake, but the annoyance I felt after watching that video was all too real.

Some may tell you otherwise, but there is a huge difference between "you can come" and "I want you to come."

"You can come if you want" is a half-hearted invitation. It makes the person on the receiving end feel unimportant, uninvited and confused as to whether or not the other person actually wants to spend time with them.

However, "I want you to come" is reassuring. It shows the person on the other end that they are important, wanted and appreciated.

Think about it. Would you want to spend time with someone who only wants to get together "if you do?" I know I sure wouldn't.

Instead, I'd enjoy my own company or the company of those who truly appreciate me.

Despite the amazing things our generation has accomplished, we do have one major flaw: we play it way too safe.

One of my old bosses (shoutout to T) once sat us all down and told us about the dangers of playing it safe when it comes to how we handle our feelings about those we care about.

Even if we have all the love in the world for someone, we choose to keep it hidden. We don't show our excitement over getting to spend time with our friends or significant others, even if we were bouncing off the ceiling over the thought of being in their presence.

We act like a generation of "chill" individuals who just "go with the flow" and claim that "it is what it is." We basically act like we have no emotions.

We overcomplicate everything, which in turn destroys our relationships.

Why do we do that?

It's not that difficult. If you miss someone, text them, call them, write them a letter, or go to their house.

If you're excited about getting to spend time with someone, let them know. It will make them happy and your get togethers will be much more enjoyable.

After you go home, text your friends telling them how much you enjoyed spending time with them.

Refraining from showing your appreciation for your loved ones is the quickest way to lose them. I wish I hadn't learned that the hard way.

How to respond to you can come if you want

These rumors became more alarming, however, when a rather threatening letter from Representative Walter Jones surfaced.

“Some of the most difficult times have been when our Republican leaders or potential Republican leaders must step down because of skeletons in their closets. We’ve seen it with former Speaker Newt Gingrich and Rep. Bob Livingston, who ran for Speaker in 1998.”

With all the voter distrust of Washington felt around the country, I’m asking that any candidate for Speaker of the House, majority leader, and majority whip withdraw himself from the leadership election if there are any misdeeds he has committed since joining Congress that will embarrass himself, the Republican Conference, and the House of Representatives if they become public.”

Jones’ allusion to Newt Gingrich and Bob Livingston was directly insinuating that knowledge of an extramarital affair would ruin a candidate’s chances and be detrimental to the Republican Party. Other than this letter, and some vague tweets from conservative bloggers there has been no surfaced evidence proving any of these allegations.

Both McCarthy and Ellmers have denied the rumors' legitimacy.

At the short TV press conference announcing his withdrawal from the race, McCarthy offered an explanation. He claimed that in order to fix the party disunity there needed to be a “fresh face” and that him stepping down was good for the parties long-term goals.

How to respond to you can come if you want

It has recently become clear that the ultraconservative establishment of the Republican Party wants nothing to do with McCarthy and he offended others after the moronic comments he made about the political use of the Benghazi Committee on Fox News. McCarthy’s withdrawal from the race was purely tactical, because it allows a candidate that can actually unite the Republican Party to win. The rumors' plausibility is interesting, however the most compelling explanation for McCarthy stepping down is that he simply didn't have the votes to win.

Nicks is one of those rare genius songwriters that come around once in a blue moon. Her hits with Fleetwood Mac include "Dreams," "Gold Dust Woman," and my personal favorite, "Rhiannon" show her astounding roots, and thus, her killer lyrical style. Her solo hits like "Edge of Seventeen," and "Sorcerer" show off her musical prowess as well.

If you've read my playlist article, then you'd know my adoration for Petty. But, if you haven't, suffice it to say that I consider him to be a staple in American Rock music. The fact that Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty shared the iconic duet of "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," and their subsequent romance, solidifies Nicks' position as a kickass rocker. The duet is absolutely amazing, and I'd highly suggest listening to it if you haven't.

The whole "Boho-Chic," "Coachella" fashion style became iconic in the '70s when Nicks pretty much started the trend. Her flowy dresses, iconic capes, and overall "boho-chic" vibe started this trend. (And it's still widely popular today, by the way.)

The fact that Nicks still performs today, and puts on a hell of a show is as kickass as she is. I got the amazing opportunity to see her live in Spring of 2016 and I was completely enthralled the entire time. This woman still knows how to "Rock a Little."

Unless you've been completely checked out from modern television, you couldn't have missed her appearance in the hit show "American Horror Story: Coven." Nicks makes an appearance as herself, and she's intertwined into the witchy storyline. Creepy? Yes. Incredibly cool? Also yes.

There are so many other reasons why Stevie Nicks is incredibly amazing, but these are just my top five. After reading this article, I'd hope you would go check out some of her work!

Student Life

It was a school day.

And I was in my bed.

Students were in their room

catching up on homework

or watching Netflix.

Adults were working

completing projects for their boss

or perhaps on their lunch break

talking with their colleagues.

But it was Wednesday.

It was a school day.

And I was overwhelmed.

Perhaps in a lecture hall

somewhere on the globe

the laughter of many voices

fills the room.

Somewhere, the school bell rings.

Symbolizing the end of a school day.

Children eagerly grab their things,

forming two straight lines.

As the children get a glimpse

of the sunlight,

they lock eyes with their mom

and jubilantly run into her arms.

But it was Wednesday.

It was a school day.

And I just began a long day’s work.

the sun begins to set in the East,

illuminating the city skyline, for all to see.

Just as fireflies are lighting suburban lawns,

for children to play in the autumn eve.

As the crawls in, all return home.

Wishing well to their loved ones.

The rest their heads and begin to count sheep.

Just as they were taught as a child,

they speak not a peep.

But it was Wednesday.

It was a school day.

And I again got nothing done.

Swoon

Love is blind. I didn’t believe that the first time I heard that phrase, but the moment I knew we were over I saw the changes in you grew rapidly. I didn’t know who you were.

I’m getting ahead.

2014 is the year where you absolutely changed my entire life. I met you online not thinking anything of it, and out of curiosity I went on this app that I know you would remember, all the guys in there that I saw were not attractive to me at all and I went to deactivate my account.. but I saw you. Something struck me and this feeling inside my gut told me to message you. Nothing. For 3 months straight I didn’t hear not a single word back from you, until one day. We agreed to meet, and we saw a movie. The entire time I could hardly focus with you sitting next to me. My heartbeat pounded through my chest and though my eyes were struck at the screen, I sensed your eyes staring at me.

When you are attending classes in the day, studying in the afternoon and trying to have a social life in the evening, college students often overlook essential aspects of healthy living. These aspects include, but are not limited to, eating healthier and finding time to exercise. Many college students often put these activities on the back burner because they cannot find the time or it is simply a lot cheaper not to. Well, I am here to tell you that living a healthier life on a college schedule and budget is definitely possible and rather easy.

The first aspect that is necessary for a healthier life is exercise. When most people think of exercising, they often think of working out like the next bodybuilding champion or running a marathon. If this is something you strive for then, by all means, shoot for the stars! In actuality, exercise can be something as easy as going for a walk after dinner or doing a couple sit-ups before bedtime. As a student at the University of Florida, you have a plethora of options when it comes to places and opportunities for exercise. Even if you can only take a 20 minute study break, a short jog is doable. There is nothing too small when to comes to exercise. Even if you decide to walk to the stadium after class, you have limitless ways to work out: run up and down the steps, run around the concourse, do exercises on the bleachers for your abs. Even if you aren't the most in-shape person out there, at least you are getting out there and doing something. The most important aspect that most college students overlook is the idea of eating healthy. Following a long day of studying or finding that there isn't enough time to prepare something to eat, many students will turn to delivery services or fast food as their source of nutrients. While this is the cheapest and quickest alternative, as is often said, nothing worth having comes easy. Yes, Domino's is probably the most delicious and rewarding meal you can imagine, but think of how your hot spring break body will feel about this choice. I am here to tell you that eating healthy is something that can be done cheaply and on a busy schedule.

Let me introduce you to the genius new fad of the decade: meal prepping. All you need for this process to be successful is a couple of Glad containers and microwavable ingredients. At most grocery stores, you can find bags of microwavable vegetables and chicken that can be cooked and packaged in minutes. All you need to do is find a small bit of time in your weekend, prepare these meals for the week ahead and refrigerate them until you are ready to eat. It is quick, and if you catch the right deals, you can do it cheaply.
