Group: Jorvik / The City of Greed

You will receive this quest after completing the quests "Pricking the Needle" and "Burning the Firebrand".

As their investigations come to a close, Eivor and Ljufvina rush to the archives to confirm their suspicions on who The Vault might be.

Quest stages of Closing The Vault

1. Return to Ljufvina

Return to Ljufvina and review the clues you have gathered with her. You will come to the conclusion that the another member of the Order of Ancients must be someone from the following four: Ricsige, Faravid, Audun, and Hjorr.

2. Reach Jorvik's archives / Search the archives

Go to the archives. There you will find many documents that you may or may not want to examine, but the most important lies on a desk in the corner. It is a letter written by Hjorr, the contents of which make him look suspicious.

Note to Silversmith

To be delivered to: Coppergate Market
I will need this smelted down, and I will procure more if necessary. Breathe not a word of this to my wife.

In addition, the desk is in a different place than usual so you and Ljufvina will move it and thus reveal a secret room hidden behind it.

Destroy the boards blocking the passage and go inside. Examine the room and you will come to the conclusion that the wine to be used during the feast has been poisoned.

3. Reach the Yuletide feast / Speak to Ljufvina

Head to Jorvik Theatre where the feast is taking place. When you reach the place then talk to Ljufvina. Together you will decide that you will talk to the suspects to try to identify which of them is the "bad guy", and then you will inform her about the result of your investigation.

4. Identify The Vault

This is not necessary, but you can now talk to all the suspects.

Faravid - You will offer him a drink together. He will accept, but he will offer to drink ale instead of wine.
Hjorr - You will ask him to create a distraction which will require him to get drunk. He will refuse because he does not want people to see him in such a state.
Ricsige - When you tell him that the wine is spoiled, he will want to dump it and replace it with wine from his private stock.
Audun - When you offer him toas, he will get confused and refuse, saying that the wine is for the people of Jorvik.

When you are ready to accuse one of them, then then talk to Ljufvina.

The person you should point to is, of course, Audun. But even if you point out the wrong person, after a while Audun will reveal his true identity.

5. Assassinate The Vault

Red Hand people will show up in the amphitheater, but your main target should be The Vault, who will be running around and trying to hide. Focus on him, an accurate bow shot should knock him down, then approach him and confirm the kill.

6. Find and regroup with Ljufvina

You will find Ljufvina next to one of the houses near the river.

7. Speak to Ricsige at the Royal Hall

To complete this quest, go back to the king and explain to him what happened. He will then thank you for saving his life. You will also be able to make suggestions on how to use the silver robbed by the Order - "Give it to the merchants" or "Fund Halfdan's war".

In the end you will also learn what for Hjorr needed the silver he wrote about in the note to the silversmith you found in the archives.

After completing Closing The Vault you will get or will be able to get Reporting on Jorvik.

Should you give the silver to the merchants or fund Halfdan war?

A cutscene will play when you reach the Royal Hall. You can choose to give the silver back to the merchants of the town or use it to fund Halfdan's war. We chose to give it to the merchants because they deserve it after being cheated by the Needle.

Should I give money to the merchants of fund Halfdans war?

The silver that the Vault and The Needle have been collecting can be given either to the merchants or used to fund the Halfdan's war. The best choice here is to give the silver to the merchants as it was stolen from them, and the Needle cheated them. Returning the Silver to merchants will have no impact on the story.

Who should I give the silver to in Jorvik AC Valhalla?

The wife of King Rhodri and probably the most level-headed person in the situation, Lady Angharad will entertain your offer even if her husband won't. She suggests you donate that silver to the kingdom's treasury, and in return she'll help to smooth things over.
