Yep, anyone theoretically could have any natural coloured hair. It's all genetics, maybe some random mutation caused your brown hair.

I'm Chinese/Vietnamese and my natural hair isn't exactly pure black. It's more like a very dark brown. But in certain lighting conditions and hair styles, it can look bright reddish-brown. I know a lot of people with similar natural hair to me.

I also had an ex who's Chinese and he had black hair, but with random strands of orange hair all over.

Well blonde is a different thing from dark brown. It's a specific gene that controls for blondness. Originally, it was believed all human beings had dark hair and dark eyes, dark brown/black and brown usually. Most people with black hair truly do seem to have black hair - although they often look reddish in the sun. I have seen adult Asians though with very dark brown or reddish hair which I don't believe was dyed but knowing how prevalent dyeing is it's hard to know.

I don't want to be misquoted but generally Asian hair color is diverse even though the large majority tends towards very dark brown/black. That said, there are quite many who have natural brownish/reddish brown hair and this is often seen in South Asia and the Pacific where even many aboriginal Hawaiians, like Eddie Aikau even had blonde hair (which I don't believe is dyed, but similar to other pacific islanders).

The point being that hair colors among Asians other than black is not a "European" trait. It is a human trait that has been there since the beginning.

I've noticed quite a few Koreans with distinctly dark brown instead of black hair too. Saw a Korean girl, maybe 9, who looked full Korean with dark brown hair.

It is indeed rare to see an East Asian with lighter hair colors. I've seen a few East Asians with dark brown hair but never lighter than that, naturally that is. I am half Vietnamese, half Chinese and my hair is quite light for an East Asian person or I think it is. Here are some pictures of my hair color. I took these inside, without flash. In the sun, it turns into a very bright orangy? color. Hard to see in these pictures but I have natural highlights as well.

Not exactly sure if this is classified as medium brown or light brown.

And unlike most East Asians, my natural hair isn't straight but wavy (I straightened them in the above pictures but in the 2nd closeup shot, you can still see my wavy textured hair. I'm not too fond of it.....) I've yet to see another asian with hair as light as mine without the use of hair dye except for my cousin on my mom's side. My cousin's hair is slightly lighter than mine with almost blonde highlights but I was told that her father is a quarter French or something.

P.S both of my parents are full asians with black hair. I still find the latter strange.

Wow that's your natural hair? Certainly unusual, but I have seen East Asians with that colour. You don't have any Hmong ancestry do you?

Yeah, it's my natural hair color. Some people just assume I dyed it but then when they ask and I respond with a no, they always give me a shock face. Like I have no time to color my roots every other day lol. About the Hmong ancestry, I don't really know. My grandparents on my father's side did move from China to Vietnam but I don't know which part of China they came from. I'm not sure about my mom's side either. It could be possible but I've never heard any talks about it.

I've also seen Asians with that color but they had darker roots so I don't think it was natural. Well, I do live in America and it's like a trend for every Asian to dye their hair brown here.

It is kind of annoying how so many Asians dye their hair. I guess they find black too boring. I think it's particularly bad when they dye it blonde or something.

I find it interesting when you see unusual/uncommon hair/types among Asian.

I have never seen east Asians with natural brown hair, I think it can occasionally go slightly reddish when exposed to the sun otherwise hair hair is normally straight and black. There are a few Chinese people I've seen with natural curly hair but it's quite unusual.

Chinese people will curly hair actually isn't that uncommon. I've seen the odd E.Asian with natural brown and noticeably reddish hair. Have a Korean friend, full Korean, who has some pics of him when he was like 5 with obvious reddish hair, quite noticeable not in sunlight.

I have seen quite a few Koreans with reddish tint to their hair. Not sure if they've dyed it, but in the sun you can see the red.

Lets talk about eye color among Asians. If your eye color is not brown than you are seen as exotic looking in that part of the world. And its not only blue eyes and green eyes, even hazel eyes are seen as exotic in Asia.

We White people do not see light eyes as exotic because it is so common among us that we take it for granted.
