Arrived with a sticky brown residue on the item. Smells like garbage. Hoping the game actually works.

The graphics and game play are excellent, but this game only allows you to save your progress at specific and infrequent times. It does not frequently autosave either. You lose all your progress if you die before the next save point. So you wind up playing and replaying the same stuff over and over and over. I finally decided it just wasn't worth the time I had to spend to get back to where I was before, and I quit playing the game.

I love this game so far! I’ve probably played about 7 hours or so by now and the gameplay, despite being EXTROIDINARILY difficult, is really fun.

I enjoyed this game until I tried to add the DLC through the Playstation store. This did not work because, apparently, the license for this disc was Europe, rather than the United States. Now, to play the DLC I have to buy another disc. This was never advertised and I am highly disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Frustrating, for dedicated gamers only

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 15, 2020

It seems like a brilliant game, but frankly I found it too frustrating to be enjoyable. If you've got lots of time to spend towards trying, dying, and trying again multiple times, then go for it. The combat's not that hard; it's the lack of checkpoints/savepoints that makes it arduous. You can play several hours, only to die at the umpteenth enemy, and have to start again. I can see why it's highly rated, but perhaps it's only for dedicated gamers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Challenging game, great story

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 1, 2021

I read a lot of reviews for this before playing that described the game as being "ridiculously hard" or "too frustrating" and after 100+ hours of gameplay I find these reviews unfair. It would be wrong to say Bloodborne isn't difficult, it is. But is also very well balanced in pretty much every way.

For example if you die you'll loose all your blood echoes (kind of like XP or 'score') and have to start again from where you spawned, but it lets you retrieve them if you kill the enemy that killed you. Yes you have to go all the way back, but it lets you run past all the other foes so you don't have to fight them again.

Similarly many enemies can kill you on just 1 or 2 hits, but if you come across one of these and decide your not ready to fight them, the game will always let you run away as long as you can evade them fast enough, which makes you feel like you escaped from a dangerous enemy and builds up the tension for when you see them next.

Another good example is that there is no pause in game, so you are only safe when you reach a checkpoint and can return to your staging area. It's annoying at first but soon you realize by removing the ability to pause you are never really safe in a world that is very dangerous, It adds a lot of tension and makes you give the gameplay the attention it deserves. Wandering far from a checkpoint to discover new areas and not knowing where the next save will be is at time genuinely nerve racking and the game as a whole is better for it.

Everything you fight in game deals a fair bit of damage and the enemies are sometimes relentless and unforgiving, but why wouldn't they be? They're enemies right?! You can quite easily be killed by some of the most basic enemies if theres 2 or more of them and you're not paying attention. That said all of their animations are very predictable, so by learning the game and getting good at it you steadily make progress rather than button bashing your way through mindless levels and grinding stats that you don't really care about.

Admittedly Bloodborne does not hold your hand. there is no minimap, almost no tutorial features and a very limited hud. the storyline is also kept quite vague so you have to find things out for yourself and keep searching for new things, this really engrosses you in the game lore and narrative and makes you want to know whats going to happen next.

By making the game as challenging as it is but balancing it so well in all of these ways, defeating a boss or clearing an area feels like you have made progress and achieved something. This really is an excellent game and i will remember it as one of my all time favorites.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hard for hard's sake. Not actually that fun.

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 22, 2020

This game is hard. Like I spent 5hrs this afternoon and probably advanced 30mins kind of hard.

I get the appeal. It's hard so when you finally do something well you feel rewarded.

The problem is, the game itself is actually quite boring. Difficulty aside, it's just a monotonous dreary world with some stupid looking monsters.

I'll leave this to the hardcore gamers to enjoy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just like Nioh, its an unforgiving game.

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 4, 2020

if you like being punished and sent back to the beginning again, and again and again, then this game is for you. Its definitely NOT gripping at first, well I never kept playing as I got fed up with dieing. I like games that are emersion and gripping, its also nice when games give you some kind of clue what to do or where to go...this game doesn't.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fear the old blood

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 15, 2019

I am pc gamer, my whole life. I had to buy ps4 just because of this title.
Totally worth it !!! Best game ever !!! and yes its hard, punishing and you will die a lot, but its still fair and you will know where you done a mistake and it was purely your fault, and that is what give you that feeling of accomplishment, that you done something big... best gaming experience ever (at least for me)

But i had and issue where it comes to online play, game kick you to main game menu, that connection was lost and i cannot play online at all. I found 2 most common solutions for this. First that you can start game before its fully instaled, which actually stop the rest of it and ps is trying to install it in idle menu times, which by default its go off in 10-15min of idle time. So changing those options could help and let game to finish inst.
Second is that firmware on ps4 slim version got some issues with game, which applied to my problem. Completely delete tha game reinstall firmware ( even delete whole hardrive), reinstall game and youre online ;)
