Raw foodists, vegans and vegetarians cannot get enough B vitamins because they don't eat meat and eggs, so nutritional yeast is a great supplement. I am not a vegetarian, although I lean toward that eating style, so I use this in my smoothies, salad, rice or soups. So good! And it's true, it is great on popcorn. Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2021 In retaliation for McCormick discontinuing home style gravy packets, I saved the ingredient list and ventured off to make my own. Mushroom powder, yeast extract, beef base (these seemed to be the flavor entries) I saw nutritional yeast at the grocery store (good on popcorn?) and grabbed it. Quick and dirty is a packet of mushroom gravy, teaspoon pork base (secret ingredient #2), 1 tblsp nutritional yeast, 2 tblsp roux (yes I make roux but use a packet) and 2 cups of water and good googly moogly it’s home style gravy only BETTER. I started putting the nutritional yeast in all of my soups, stews, gravies, stuffing and it’s magical. It lends a savoriness (I am old school and avoid the word umami) I was going to try marmite (also yeast based) but I didn’t want the house to smell like garbage. Nutritional yeast does not have much of a smell, maybe like baked goods but a couple of tablespoons in your savory dishes turns them into a love potion. All of my friends are now adding nutritional yeast to everything except, as it turns out, popcorn salt still wins over yeast for popcorn. My husband “what did you do this time?” Ancient vegan secret! Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2022 We mainly use it on popcorn, of which I eat a lot of. Found we able to cut down on the salt used on popcorn by at least 80% . It should help me lower my high blood pressure. We also sprinkle it on other foods where we used to use Parmesan cheese. I like it very much and plan to buy more as I feel it is a healthy way to go. Highly recommend it. Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2022 Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2021 I have used nutritional yeast on popcorn (and a few other things) for years, but Bob's Red Mill is by far the best I've tried. I used to buy it at Whole Foods, but apparently they stopped carrying it. (I tried both stores in town.) I also looked at Safeway but ended up finding it easily on Amazon and had it delivered. It came quickly and packaged very well so I didn't have to worry about freshness. If you haven't tried it on popcorn, you're missing out on a delicious treat!
