Banners are decorative Minecraft blocks that can be custom created to look exactly the way a player wants.

Players oftentimes put custom banners on completed bases, houses, and captured areas. Banners can be placed on shields, walls, on top of blocks, and in every place imaginable. However, not every player knows how to create a custom banner. Here is a guide to creating banners in Minecraft.

Custom banners in Minecraft

To create a banner, the player will need a stick and six pieces of wool. From there, open up the crafting table and copy the image displayed below. Players can also create banners with different colors of wool beside the standard white.

How to make wool: For one piece of wool you require four pieces of strings and then place them inside a crafting table as shown below.

How to make a stick: You need two pieces of wooden plank and place them inside a crafting table to make a stick as shown below.

How to make a simple banner: You need six pieces of wool and one piece of stick and then place them inside a crafting table to create a simple banner as shown below.

How to craft a dye: Now if you need to customize a banner that you have created above, you need a dye. There are a total 16 colors of dye colors available in Minecraft. The ‘yellow’ and ‘light blue’ dye are the ones that we are going to use for example but you can use other dye colors of your choice. You can get the yellow color dye by placing a ‘dandelion’ flower that you can get from the plain biomes inside a crafting table as shown below. You need a ‘blue orchid’ that you can find by going closer to the swamp biomes.

How to craft a loom: Now after getting both the banner and a dye, you need to craft a loom. So, for the crafting of a loom you need two pieces of strings with two pieces of planks as shown below:

How to customize the banner in Minecraft

To customize your banner you need to right click on the loom and place a banner along with a dye and in the top center you will find many different patterns. You can select any of the patterns of your choice and the result will be displayed on the top right as shown below. In each pattern, dye will be used on the white part of the design.

There are many banner patterns to choose from and you can use multiple patterns and dyes to improve your banner design. This is one example of a banner where I have used yellow with light blue dye.

This is also a great way to avoid risking fall damage in survival mode, as well as being a great way for players to cut down multiple trees within minutes without having to break every individual block that made up the leaves.

Combine Materials

Once players have one stick and six blocks of wool, they can use a crafting table to make a banner. If players do not have a crafting table already, they can gather three blocks of wood and craft wooden planks. The wooden planks can then be used to craft a crafting table.

Banners can be crafted by placing the wool in the six top blocks on the crafting table and the stick on the center bottom block (shown above). Depending on the gameplay settings the player is using, the recipe may immediately appear in the player's known recipe list once they gather the first block of wool.

Customizing Banners
